To invite or not to invite?

To invite or not to invite?

I told my mom I was having problems cutting people from work off my list. I work two jobs, and with guests, it comes to about 35 people. Yikes!! So she said just to invite the co-worker and that is it. I told her proper etiquette (sp) is you have to invite the spouse if they are married. She said she just recently went to a wedding from work and only she was invited, not my dad. I say this is a big no-no. What does everyone else think?

Big no-no. Don't invite anyone from work if you have to - 35 people is a lot!

I agree with you...BIG no-no...although 35 really is an awful lot of co-workers. Maybe you can find a way to cut it down to only those you are closest with on a daily basis. People should be able to understand that weddings are expensive endeavors and they can't all be invited.

I think you have to invite the spouse if they are married. Beleive me, i'm trying to cut guests any way I can, but my rule is if they are living with another person, in a committed relationship, or married, we invite the significant other.

Hope that helps!

I don't think a married couple should ever be invited with out the other.

ETA - as for your co-workers you have to put that number down, if they aren't in a serious committed relationship then invite them solo.

Draw up the list a few times, you might see how the numbers change

Oops!!! Did I forget to mention that the 35 people is cut from the 48 that I had originally listed!! Yes, I know, back to the drawing board.
PS - Im not considering inviting anyone without their spouse. I just felt bad that my mom had to go to a wedding by herself.

My FI and I work for the same company and are friendly with a lot of people. There was no way we could invite them all and didn't want people to get bent out of shape if we only invited a few, so we decided to only invite our bosses. I feel bad but I think it was for the best. Just hope everyone understands.

i feel bad for your mom too.
i was invited to a cowrker wedding without a guest, which was fine, except, other cowrkers were invited with significnt others, amrried or not.
We weren't living together, adn he they didn't really know each other, but they had met, & we had been dating 1 of teh 2 years I knew the co-worker.
Onyl oen otehr person was in this situation ( fortunatley we are friends0 are her boyfriend ( now husband) drove us all the way to Poughkeepsie for this thing, even though he wasn't invited.

ther was an awkward moment where by boss asked where my boyfriend was & i tried to avoid saying he wasn't invited.
In retrospect, I should have declined the invitation.

This co worker no longer works here & we don't keep in touch so he is not invited to my wedding.
He also didn't send thank yous.

We did the exact same thing. We are friends with too many people at both our jobs and couldn't possibly pick and choose so, that is what we did. I think it is better to invite nobody instead of just certain people. That would cause more problems!

There are some brides that will invite co-workers to the ceremony only and not the reception. I agree, unless you are very close to some of the people I would not invite them. I also did not invite children. It does start to add up.

since you have so many co-workers...invite them solo and make them 1 table .... they can all hang out together, no? if you know more about that person etc (hang out outside of work/happy hour) then i think you could invite spouse. i would like to know all my guest at the wedding. and vice versa, why would you want to go to a wedding where you only know 1 person? they are not that close then

I believe that you should definetly invite the spouse.
