to invite the coworkers or not?? (kinda long)

i need some advice. i work in a very small office, about 30 people, so i'm close to most of them. although we don't hang out on weekends and i would never call them at home just to chat, occassionally we do happy hours or some other social activity after work. i've worked with them for about 2.5 years.

there's 6 people that i almost definitely want to invite (though i'm not sure about guests for 4 of them, the other two are married).

but then i'm wondering about the three other women who i talk to alot, one of whom i work closely with every day b/c we are the only 2 people on this particular team. the other two i'm friendly with and eat lunch with a lot but don't go out with them after work. i feel like if i invite the other 6 and not them they'll be really offended or thinking 'i'm better friends with her than so and so, how come she didn't invite me?'

also all these people live in the dc metro area so probably the ones i'm on the fence about won't even come. but i don't want it to look like i'm fishing for gifts if i invite them sort of knowing they won't come. then again they keep asking about it so maybe they will come? and i'll probably be in ny by july so maybe they won't care after 3 months of not seeing them.

then there's my supervisor. we sit right next to each other so we've gotten to know each other pretty well over the past 2.5 years. but not really in an outside of work context. and he has two small kids so again probably wouldn't come.

so anyway, would you invite the other three and the supervisor??

i hate doing the guest list!!

Invite them - the three and your supervisor if you can afford it - if they say no then oh well - at least you won't feel uncomfortable going back to work and you can freely discuss the wedding

i have the same problem and i posted about it a few weeks ago. i ended up not inviting anyone from work. i am a teacher in a small school and there are 5 or 6 tteachers that i am really friendly with.

the other teachers are very nice, but we dont see each other socially at all. if i only invite 6 co workers, that leaves 13 who are not invited, so we decided not to invite them at all. this way i dont alienate the others and cause any problems at work. and, it saves me money.

hope this helps,

Wow!! I could have written this myself!! I've been at my job for 2 1/2 years and there are 25 people here. If I could 'pick and choose' based on who I'm close to it would create problems. So, I kind of have to do it by position I guess. I will definitely invite my two bosses. Now heres where the confusion starts, the next group of people brings the list to 16 more guests and the next group would have to include everyone. So, its approx 16 or just the bosses. But, if all 16 come, thats more than a table and it starts to complicate things. We're paying for our wedding ourselves and my FH thinks I can cut it down more, but I know its just the bosses or all 16. . . And, to top it off, my Mom wants me to decide soon b/c she wants to invite the woman to my shower if I'm inviting them to the wedding. If money were not an issue - I'd invite them all!!

I wouldn't hand deliver them. If you want to tell them to keep it a secret, tell them when you get their addresses from them. But, definitely mail them.
