Should I ask thatmy shower be kept a secret or should I ask that I know about it. All I really want to know is the date so that I keep the date open (I work a part-time job on weekends). Plus, I'd like to look nice for it, so it'd be nice to get my hair and make-up done for it.
Thoughts?

Re: To know or not to know...
I say NO! Have someone call your part-time job and request it off for you. I liked it being a surprise EVEN though I HATE surprises!! If they plan it to be a party for someone else and you will attend, you will already be dressed appropriately!!

Re: To know or not to know...
what my sister did was she told me that every Saturday for a month and a half we were going out, get all dressed up and 'surprise there is no shower today' until it was. so even get a few dates from her, get all ready on those dates and it will still be a surprise

I think i'm the odd one out here. I say don't be surprised. I see all these posts from girls that want a surprise and they get all upset because 90% of the time, the surprise is ruined. It's really hard to expect people to keep such a big secret like that. This is just my personal opinion.
I know when mine is but not details or anything. I'll get ready so I can look nice and be there when guests arrive to greet them that way I don't have to worry about rushing to each table and say hello to everyone. I think i'll enjoy it more this way.

Re: To know or not to know...
I dont really want mine to be a surprise either...i reallllly dislike surprises
all i ask is that they tell me the date...so i could get dressed cute etc.
i dont need to know the location and the details etc and even said i would blindfold myself for the drive to where ever so that it would still be a 'surprise'

Re: To know or not to know...
See, I'll find out when it is even if they try to keep the date a surprise...not from the registry, but because my mom will probably be baking LOTS of cookies for it, and I live in the apartment below her...there are only so many places you can stash trays of cookies without me knowing.

Re: To know or not to know...
i have a weird work schedule so i actually picked the date AND place for my shower! I did the research online and then went to George Washington Manor with them to book it. But i left the favors and other stuff up to my BP and that was a great surprise! I loved my shower and wouldn't have done it any other way!

Re: To know or not to know...
i didn't want to be surprised but i'm not traditional in that sense. it was good because i knew what was going on but on the day of that had a few surprises for me.
Honestly, everyone knows they are getting a shower so to me I think the surprise factor doesn't even exist.

No. They will have someone take care of that for you. Someone will call your job and I gave my sister clothes so she makes sure I have them.

Someone will call your job.
See, my job doesn't work like that...it's tutoring, so I alone control when I meet with students.

One of my BM's told me the other day to 'butt out', it is one area I can't control.

Re: To know or not to know...
i wanted mine to be a surprise ...but i kinda figured it out towards the end and FH's ability to not keep a secret just confirmed my idea...so i booked a hair trial and makeup trial for that morning ..hey it had to be done anyway

Re: To know or not to know...
I think you should probably know so you can plan your tutoring schedule.
I want mine to be a surprise for the most part...I just want to know what month it's in
