I am a cake decorator. I always insisted I would make my own wedding cake. However, there are a lot of people around me suggesting that I will be way to busy to make my own cake. What do you think? TIA

Re: To make my Cake, or not!
I think that you are going to be very busy to be making your own cake. Maybe you can design your cake and work with another person to actually do it. This way you know you get exactly what you want but not the pressure of making it yourself!

I like the idea about designing it and having someone else make it - then its still your design but w/out all the tedious work!

I wish I couldve designed or made my own cake........maybe I wouldve gotten what I wanted.....I say if you have enough time go for it But thats only as long as you have everything done way beforehand

Re: To make my Cake, or not!
I think of it this way.....
my mom and aunt are both florists and when I first got engaged both of them kept saying they wanted to do all the flowers for the wedding.....fast forward a few months and they both realized it is going to be way to much to do a few days before the wedding.
A cake just like flowers cant be made weeks or months before the day..they need to be fresh.
So I suggest no....it will be too stressful for you

I also think it will be too much for you to have to worry about... I think the idea of you designing the cake and having tons of input is the best way to go.

No way..you do not want to be bothered with that right before the wedding. Like others said design it and have someone else make it

Maybe make a groom's cake instead? Those tend to be a little smaller so maybe it won't be as time consuming? Plus, then you will still feel as though you contributed...

If you really want to do it and think you can swing it without making yourself extra stressed and crazy, then I say go for it! Good Luck!

I would say design the cake but don't actually do the cake yourself!

I agree about designing the cake, but not making it. Maybe you can have someone in your shop make it, and then just supervise. The last few days before things get really hectic and you will be so stressed out, it'll just be too much.

Re: To make my Cake, or not!
The stress of the entire day can drive anyone nuts.. and to think of the cake on top of it all can be a little overwhelming. I would find a baker that you trust and love and like the others said help design it! Make a cake for you Husband another time

Re: To make my Cake, or not!
I love cake decorating! My mom and I both do decorating, but she said she was going to make my engagement cake. ha! She was wayyy too busy. I couldn't imagine making a wedding cake! It takes soooo long! One bakery I did love is La Bonne Boulangerie. When I picked a custom cake from them, I was so happy! And thankful I didn't decorate my own.

Ok so I originally voted no, but I change my mind. If you work at a bakery then why not. But if you are doing this out of your home kitchen then forget it, you will be way to busy.
