I am having a Friday night wedding. As of now our church start time is 5:30.... it is a full mass, although I am hoping to change that to just a ceremony... either way I am considering moving the start time up a half hour. My CH starts at 8:30, and the Church is tops 15mins from the RH, we arn't going anywhere for pics.... DO you all think this is enough time? If we have to do the Full mass... that only gives us 2 hours inbetween for pics. Another factor is I have a HUGE BP... 19 people.... I really want to make the CH...
What do you all think I should do? Or should I keep the 5:30 if it is a ceremony only?

Re: To move up my start time or not???
hmm on the one hand 2 hour might be cutting it close..but on the other hand making it earlier might make it alot harder for your guests to get there on time bc it is a friday...did you say you were considering shortening the mass? That might help

If your doing a ceremony only, it shouldn't be longer than 30mins at most...so even if you left the church by 6:30ish, that gives you 2 hrs to take pics b4 your 8:30 CH...and its not like your gonna go to your CH right on the dot at 8:30 either, you want to make sure people are there b4 you enter.

Yeah, maybe shortening the mass is the better option. I am concerned bc it's a friday people being able to get there. Now I just have to talk to the church about it....

If your doing just the ceremony, it might be tight but you should be able to get to CH...If your doing the full mass, you might want to change the time to be on the safe side

Right I am not going to be the first ones in there of course. Is 2 hours enough time? I have no idea? I mean I hope so that is A LOT of freakin pictures!

I really only want to do the ceremony.. now its the awkwardness when I tell the church this is what I want... I feel like I am insulting them. When we booked the Pastor said he likes to do a full mass bc it is a celebration.... and I appreciate that but I don't really want it...

i think you will be fine if you're doing just a ceremony. this is what we are doing as well to ensure we have enough time for pics before CH

I think you can be honest and tell him that you're worried about the time. Maybe tell him you're going to go to mass the day/night before so that you show him you are committed to the religious aspect of the ceremony. He should understand, I'm sure you're not the first couple to only have a ceremony.

I could do that only they don't have mass on a Thursday the week before we can probably do though.... I mean we are getting married in a Lutheran Church. I am Lutheran but only 4 other family members of my ENTIRE family are Lutheran and NONE of Fh's family is... So do I really need a full mass?

yeah.. i think a 5:30 mass and a 8:30 cocktail is pushing it.
Lets say the mass ends at... 6:30, to over estimate, you won't even get out of the place after pictures and receiving like till 7.. get at the hall at 7:20 lets say so thats an hour of pics.
hmm.. might be cutting it close

Sorry to crash, but I would say the reason you would rather do a ceremony only is bc yours is a marriage of mixed religion, and you want to be sensitive of everyone's beliefs. I wouldn't mention anything about being concerned about time. Also, just so you're aware while ceremonies do generally run less time than full masses, it really depends on the priest. We had a ceremony only and he gave a really long homily - we were there for an hour!
ETA: Our ceremony was at 5, CH was at 7. We missed most of our CH, but got all of pics in.

That was getting to long to quote again....
That is such a better reason! I felt bad saying it was time related bc really the Ceremony is the marriage. I didn't want to offend the church like I said. It could run long well I will just talk it over with him I guess closer to it, and explain my concerns then about time. But for now I am totally going with the mixed religion reason... THANKS!

I think you're better off keeping the time. Especially, since its a friday night and many people have work. You should have enough time in between.

Re: To move up my start time or not???
Hey Shauna I think that a 5:30 mass or ceremony is more than enough time. I was told that if you're not going to another site for pictures, it really only takes 45 min to take the pics... So even if mass ends at 6:30 and receiving line ends at 6:50, and it takes ten minutes to get to the JT, that still gives you 90 min of pictures. I honestly think you are fine. I think that is a safer bet than making the ceremony earlier since it is a Friday and most your guests are coming from Eastern LI.
