To move up my start time or not???

Original post by soontobecruz

I am having a Friday night wedding. As of now our church start time is 5:30.... it is a full mass, although I am hoping to change that to just a ceremony... either way I am considering moving the start time up a half hour. My CH starts at 8:30, and the Church is tops 15mins from the RH, we arn't going anywhere for pics....
DO you all think this is enough time? If we have to do the Full mass... that only gives us 2 hours inbetween for pics. Another factor is I have a HUGE BP... 19 people.... I really want to make the CH...

What do you all think I should do? Or should I keep the 5:30 if it is a ceremony only?

Hey Shauna I think that a 5:30 mass or ceremony is more than enough time. I was told that if you're not going to another site for pictures, it really only takes 45 min to take the pics... So even if mass ends at 6:30 and receiving line ends at 6:50, and it takes ten minutes to get to the JT, that still gives you 90 min of pictures. I honestly think you are fine. I think that is a safer bet than making the ceremony earlier since it is a Friday and most your guests are coming from Eastern LI.

Actually I am more concerned with the guest coming from NJ lke Matt's ENTIRE family... other than Dad and bro. Yeah I am going to keep the same time and see if we can just do the ceremony and no mass. I also really don't want a recieving line... I have to figure out a way around that one too. We just think we are greating our guests, at the CH, table to table at the reception and of course the g'byes at the end to Thank them (I hate thinking of the end). We don't have to do it 4 times... so it should be fine

Thanks everyone for their input!! I'll update after I talk to the church and see how it goes!

I would make sure you can do just the ceremony since that is what you really want anyway and then you should especially be fine with time so I wouldn't worry about moving it up.

Also, keep in mind, if you make the time between the Ceremony and CH longer, any guests that come to the ceremony may need somewhere to go to wait out those few hours..

You can ask your photographer how long the pics would take. Afterall they do this all the time and should know about how long they need to get complete sets of photos in perspective of how long church and things usually last. Ours gave us a very good time line with reasoning behind it.

Right right I forgot Matt's family is from Jersey!! Yeah even more so - I'd be even more reluctant to move it up. Let me/us know what the church says!!! I think the interfaith reason was the best idea.

I'm having a Catholic mass for my ceremony and it's at 2:30 in Bay Shore, and then my CH starts at 6:00 in Garden City and I'm not worried... Should I be?? I think the timing is perfect... but then again I'm unsure of whether or not I will be attending my CH.

me too other than a few outside the church after the ceremony. I am glad to hear that a DOC said that timing was good. She does this for a living and obviously always has a timeline for brides... thanks!!
