to poof or not to poof?

Okay, so yesterday FH and I went to a photog appt and were lookin at albums. i was kinda asking him what he thought about the different bridal dresses (that was probably a mistake)...but i kinda found out he likes poofy dresses.

i have been tellin him that i dont really want poofy, and last night i was tellin him he may be disappointed.

he was just saying he wants it to look BRIDAL not like off-the-rack or like a white prom dress. which i totally get. but a nice simple, mermaid cut bridal gown can pretty much fall in either category i guess.

idk. i have mostly been looking at mermaid/trumpet cut. simple gowns. should i start looking at poofy too?? i obviously want to WOW!!! him on the big day...so his opinion does count a bit.

i definately will not do princess poof, because i did have that for my prom dress and i actually had to wear a bridal gown for some 8th grade ceromony too...so im kinda not feeling reliving all those experiences. i was hoping to WOW him in something sleek...but now im thinkin twice....

what do you girls/guys think? am i just over thinking this.....??

Re: to poof or not to poof?

don't feel bad about asking his opinion. When i'm looking through wedding magazines and i see a dress that is nice i ask FH what he thinks of it.

I'm not going with a poofy dress at all cuz i feel like i would get overwhelmed by it.

I'm sure you will wow him with whatever u wear.

i would take into acount what he likes but make sure that translates into something comfortable for you.... i love the princess poof and fh likes it too, so i could understand you wanting fh to like your dress that day!

Re: to poof or not to poof?

Its your wedding and by a dress that you will feel comfortable in and that you want to wear, otherwise, you won't be happy the whole night. I am sure your FH will think you are beautiful in whatever wedding dress you choose...

Re: to poof or not to poof?

FH is just very traditional so i think thats why he just associated all brides with poof. maybe i will look for more fully skirt trumpet dresses. i have tried a few on, just not sure if i wanted poof. idk. i guess i gotta go back to the dress stores...

thanks ladies!

Re: to poof or not to poof?

I havn't asked FH opinion bc honestly I never htought to?!? I think you should get what you are comfortable in. If you havn't tried a poofy-er dress give it a try next time you try on gowns. Who knows maybe you will like it.

No matter what you and your FH will be so overcome with joy on your wedding day you could wear pajamas and he will think you look beautiful!

oooorrrrr there is always the options of getting 2 gowns... one for the ceremony (poofy) then sleek and sexy for the reception......

Re: to poof or not to poof?

ok let's be realistic...you are going to look gorgeous and radiant no matter what you wear and at the end of the day the dress you love will allow you to feel comfortable and happy on the day of and though it may not be poofy at the end of the day your FH will love it anyways!

Re: to poof or not to poof?

i ask FHs opinion on every wedding dress at every wedding we have ever been to. all my friends/family had very different style & price dresses. (they range from off the rack purchase to custom made). although the end decision is mine, it is very important for me to have FHs opinions in mind.

believe me if my FH doesn't like the dress he will have the funniest face on the day of the wedding. he will never say flat out he doesn't like (because i told him he can't) but i will be able to tell if he likes it or not.

its really up to you if you want to look into a poofy dress. i do think you should just try so in the end you can say u did try on a variety of dresses.

Its really up to you and the dress that you fall in love with and the one you feel most comfortable in. No matter what dress you pick, your FH will love.

I showed my FH some pics of me in dresses that i tried on just to see what he would say about the dresses to get his opinion of what he liked and didnt like, so i could take that into consideration when i was seriously looking for my dress

Re: to poof or not to poof?

Honestly, I think when the moment comes that FH sees you walking down that aisle, he will forget about poof vs. no poof and be wow'd no matter what.

For me, FH knows that I want a princess gown and he gets no say for or against it. He's known that from the very beginning. He really doesn't care either way, his response is always 'I think it'll look great on the floor......'

Re: to poof or not to poof?

No, you should get whatever type of wedding dress you want. You are the one who wants to wear it and you will look just as beautiful in your mermaid/trumpet dress as you would in a poofy dress. A wedding dress is a wedding dress.

Re: to poof or not to poof?

i agree that you should get whatever dress you are comfortable in and your fh will be blown away no matter what you are wearing...but i would at least go try on some more poofy dresses (it doesnt have to be super poofy)

i started only looking for all lace gowns that were trumpet/mermaid gowns...and they were beautiful and looked good....but when i tried on some things that were more a-line I felt like more of a bride....the other dresses just felt like an evening gown. I didn't get anything super poofy but there is def more to the dress than i originally set out for....so you never know if you try some different things on then you might actually like them better.

good luck!

Re: to poof or not to poof?

Buy whatever dress you feel the most beautiful in. It will show on your face and your FH won't be able to think anything but 'Wow...I get to marry the most beautiful woman in the world!!!!'
