To register or not to register...that is the question?

To register or not to register...that is the question?

I was not going to register...because I already own my own home (before I met FH) and I have everything. I also didn't want people to be obligated to buy me anything because I didn't want to have a shower. Now...I'm rethinking my decision. Family members and friends keep asking me where I'm registered...

Should I just go with the flow and register? And have a shower? I just hate to put people out...even though I've been to so many of their showers, always with gift in hand...I'm finding it hard to accept gifts from people and then expect them to give a wedding gift also. Any advice?

Edited to say: Which is better...Bed, Bath & Beyond or Linen's 'N Things?

You should definitely register, IMO. You can''t think of anything in your home that needs replacing or that you might want? People want to give you gifts for your wedding and you shouldn''t feel guilty accepting them! Need I remind you how much you are paying for your reception??? You can make a small registry of inexpensive items too!

luvsun27 I''m in the same boat as u. I basically have everything but I was thinking of just registering for china. An entire set of china includes a lot.

I think you should register. You said it your self - your friends & family are asking. They want to get you something and they want to be sure you like it.

Even though you don''t need any thing, is there anything you would like to update - bathroom items, extra sheet sets, etc.

Enjoy this time!

Thanks girls....Yes...I don''t really 'NEED' anything...but there are certainly things I 'WANT'. So...maybe I''ll just register for some new stuff to replace some old...like dishes or towels. I appreciate your help

We felt the same way. We bought our house before we got engaged and we thought we had everything, well we need big things like a living room set and formica bec we are redoing our kitchen. But then when we were registering at Bed, Bath and Beyond we found so many items that we wanted that we never buy for ourselves, like an awesome shower head or an expensive knives set. I say go for it, because we had so much fun opening presents at our e-party.

Yes you should- you aren''t MAKING people buy you stuff, they are asking what you want.

Rumor has it you can register at places like Home Depot- if you need/want to update your house or if your FH likes tools.

FYI - We registered at Home Depot and it is a nightmare! Nobody in the store is trained on how to update the regsitry, my friends and family said it was a horrible experience.

We too thought it was a good idea, until I heard the about the problems from my friends and family.

Just an FYI!

I think definately you should register!

Your family is probably alot like most, where they WANT to get you something; to congradulate you and express their happiness for you. I think by registering you take away the pain of ''guessing'' what you want. In the end, it sounds like, shower or no shower they will get you something. That is why you should throw a shower, or have someone do it for you.. that way you guys can celebrate together!

Honestly I would register. You are not putting people out but rather giving them options if they want ideas. Being that you have your own home people may feel more stumped on what to get you so this could be a great help to thme. Plus honestly no one is obligated to do anything its only an option for them!!

Also, another idea may be to register for your honeymoon. Alot of people in your position are chosing this option as well! I think most large (ie liberty travel) type travel agents can do this!!
GOod Luck

ETA: I have heard that BBB has a better return policy! But honestly I dont know much about LNT!!!

register - this way, you get what you want - not what some others may pick for you!

Thanks for all the advice girls. FH and I went to Fortunoff''s and Bed Bath and Beyond today...I had a blast. I didn''t think there were so many things I could find that I wanted...but new dishes and new linens, towels, etc are always a nice thing. Now...I''m excited to have a shower!!! Thanks again for all your help...I really appreciated it.

i was going to tell you that you should, but then saw that you did. glad it was fun...i was just thinking that people are going to buy you gifts if they want to if you are registered or not. you might as well register so that you can at least get the things that you want...:) it's fun to do it too....

Is there anything that you would like to get as a gift but don't have already? Maybe you can put nice wedding frames on your registry? I say register for gifts! You only get married once. Getting married is special as it only happens once so does everything involved in planning the most important day of your life.

How about putting things that you don't have on your registry? Like nice gift items as wedding frames, formal table linens, formal china etc.? You can of course, elminate the basics since you've already establish a home. Just my 2 cents.
