To tan or not to tan??

I hate the idea of using a tanning bed and ruining my skin, but I've never done a spray tan before and I'm petrified it will streak, look orange, or ruin my dress!! What are you all doing??

Any advice?

To tan or not to tan?? - Long Island Weddings

I go tanning in the beds occasionally.. i won't do a spray though because too many of my friends get streaks and it can rub off on the dress and stuff. Before my prom i did the beds 2-3 times per week for like a month and I had a nice tan for it... I think it's OK every once in a while and will probably do it for the wedding

To tan or not to tan?? - Long Island Weddings

I've spray tanned before and like it, but for my wedding I'm not taking the chance with a spray tan. It can make me look a little orange & it can also streak and leave stains on your wedding dress. I'm just going to use a tanning bed.

To tan or not to tan?? - Long Island Weddings

I have been sprayed before & love it. I dont do it all the time, just for special occasions. I will probably do both only bc once i am on my honeymoon the spray will come off in ocean so I dont want to be completely white & burn while away

If you get a good quality spray tan, you will not turn orange or have streaks. If you shower prior to putting your dress on it shouldn't rub off. I get them for special occasions all the time.
I used to go in tanning beds when I was younger and I regret it. Not to be a downer, but I work in cancer research and I can't even begin to tell you the horrible things I've seen. The damage is irreversible and nothing is worth those consequences, IMO.

Re: To tan or not to tan??

I LOVE spray tan. I'm half Irish and half Russian which equals no tan. I literally cannot get a tan naturally or from a tanning bed! I tried a spray tan for my brother's wedding in 8/2010 and got so many compliments. Beach Bum normally has a good deal on spray tans of you buy two. I did this so I could so a 'practice tan.' I was able to see make sire the color was good and how long it would stay on my skin. Our BM dresses were a lilac color and the tan didn't really rub off because I had it done a day and a half before. Some tips of you do it:
1) Exfoliate, exfoliate exfoliate the days prior to getting it done. This helps the tan go one more even and your skins absorbs the spray better.
2) Make sure after you get it done you can go home and not have to move around much until the next day. I went at 8/9pm. Then went home, hung out for a bit then went to bed. Less chance to crease or smudge.
3) After your sprayed avoid sweating. AC in the car. And sleep in really cool conditions. You'll want to sleep in long sleeves and pants BC the spray will get in your sheets. Be prepared to wash your pillowcases.

This 'tricks' have always given me a flawless, even, non orangey spray tan!

To tan or not to tan?? - Long Island Weddings

I think I'll be doing the natural sun tan. My wedding is in July so I think the most authentic tan will look best.

I have done spray tans for special events (Mystic only) and love it. I never streak or look orange, but I hate the anxiety it gives me-- did I expose every part while in the box? Did I rub enough? Did I rub too much? Do I smell? Did I take too hot of a shower? Should I use my regular soap? I just cant handle that around the wedding.

Tanning booth is terrible, we all know that. I just never like the stripe on the sides of my arms that I get. If you do this, I suggest standing booths only. However, with full warning, tanning is addictive. Its relaxing, it feels like a treat, and you get compliments. DONT over tan! It is so easy to do!

To tan or not to tan?? - Long Island Weddings

I'm not sure yet, i'm still debating between the two. If I get a spray tan, I'm going to splurge for a high quality airbrush one at a reputable place. I've done both mystic and airbrush - and like both - but the custom airbrush definitely comes out nicer.

To tan or not to tan??

As bad as it is for you I decided to go tanning a few times before the wedding because on Monday FH took a pic of me and I reflected the light with my extra pale skin! I thought about trying spray but decided not to because I've never done it and don't want to experiment so close and because we are going to the Bahamas for our honeymoon right after and would like to have a base tan.
