To the moms and moms-to-be - questions

Hi all,
Wow, this is my first post on this board! DH and I haven't been married for long, but this January will be 7 years since we started dating, and now that we are married, the topic of the big 'B' has been coming up with almost all of our family and friends. So here are my three questions:

1. How long were you married before you became pregnant?

2. How old were you when you had your first baby?

3. When did you feel like you were 'ready' so to speak, or is that just a myth? :)

I'm turning 26, and DH will be 28 and we've both known since we met that we would want to have children, but the more I think about it, I just get so scared that I'll never be ready! I've been thinking about this so much lately, since DH and I both have good friends that now have children, but I'm just so scared that we won't have enough money to provide a good life for our baby, or that people might think we're too young to offer any real life experience and wisdom to our baby... Also, I don't have any clue as to how I could still work here in the city so far from home once we do have a baby! And that makes me worry that I wouldn't be home enough to spend time with the baby....Maybe I just have issues :) but I couldn't help but wonder how everyone else handled pregnancy, so I just wanted to ask. BTW, nothing is planned yet - I've just really been thinking about it a lot! :) Thanks so much for your feedback/advice!!

We were married 11 months before I got pregnant, I'm due March 7th. I just turned 29 (and will be 29 when my baby is born), my hubby will be 27 on Sunday

We were married about 7 months before we got pregnant. We've been together for 7 years and we lived together for close to 3 years before we got married. I'll be 28 around the time I deliver-my b-day is 4 days before my due date. Chris will be 30.

You never really know when you're ready. It's like explaining to someone how you know when you're in love. You just know. We just felt that the time was right in our life. We both have solid jobs, we have money saved in the bank and we were in the process of looking for a house. We've since found a house so now we really feel like we're ready as far as financial goes.

Emotionally we both really want a baby. We feel like we are at a point in our lives when we're ready to stop partying and move on to the next step in life. We're nervous as hell but at some point you just have to take the jump and go for it. There will never really be a 'right time' to have a baby. You can always come up with excuses not to. And becoming a parent is always going to be a scary thing.

Someone said to me jokingly but also seriously that you know you're ready to have a baby when you are willing to sacrifice everything that you enjoy in order to be a parent. Obviously it's a little bit of an exaggeration, but there is a lot of truth to it also. If you and DH are ready to start making sacrifices that's a major first step. Plus if you're talking about it that probably means that you're both ready.

We were married for only 3 months before we became pregnant. My husband is now 28-I'm 26 but will be 27 August 25th (6 days before my due date).
For us-it was just the next natural step in our lives. We were married, we own a house and both have finacially stable, established careers. We have been together for 7 years and are not into the 'partying' scene anymore since most of our friends are either pregnant or have kids already.

1. How long were you married before you became pregnant?

We started trying 4-6 months after we got married and it took us almost 10 month to get PG

2. How old were you when you had your first baby? 31, I turned 32 6 weeks later

3. When did you feel like you were 'ready' so to speak, or is that just a myth? :)
We were ready, for sure, but that's all subjective. Once the reality set in, we went from being scared, to nervous, to excited, to feeling like old pros now.

We're going to start trying now. We dated for 5 years and have been married for 2. I'm 28 and he's 36. We're more than ready.

Re: To the moms and moms-to-be - questions

My husband and I have been together almost 10 years, married 7 months when we got pregnant and I am due in October. I just turned 30 and he is 28. Since we've been together so long, we knew it would happen since we both wanted kids, it was just a matter of everything else falling into place (bigger house, $$, etc). We already owned a townhouse when we got married but wanted to move into a bigger house before we had kids. We got pregnant the week we moved into our new house Things have a funny way of working out and when its meant to be, it WILL happen

Good Luck to you

1. How long were you married before you became pregnant?

We were married 6 months when I got pregnant...

2. How old were you when you had your first baby?

I will be 27 when I have my first baby due this December

3. When did you feel like you were 'ready' so to speak, or is that just a myth? :)

I have always felt ready. I have always felt that the one of the big reasons for getting married was to have babies (just the way I was brought up), DH too, so it obviously worked out well, lol... I do NOT think it's a myth, I think it's something that will all of a sudden come to you.

octbride - I am the same way. I just can't wait to be a mom, it's something I just always knew I wanted once I was married and I'm really looking forward to it. Now that all our friends are starting to have babies, it makes me really start thinking about everything, so you've all been really helpful with my questions and I thank you for that! It's reassuring to hear all your answers, it definitly makes me feel a little better about how ready I'll be when it comes time for DH and I So thanks so much!!!
