To those giving CDs as Favors....

Sorry I had to post this again, I need help with CD covers/labels/cases. I don't quite understand how to do this. Are you all printing the covers out?? Did you buy a software for the covers or just the labels for the CD itself?? What kinds of designs are you using for the covers?? Where were the titles/singers listed, on the cover or the CD?? We have a software kit for the labels for the CD itself (round w/ hole in the middle), but I really want a cover for the case and don't know how to do this. Of all my favor ideas, this is what I prefer, but only if it's not too complicated. Thanks! :)

Nina, The softwear that you have to print ouy the labels for the CD's should give you and option to print the inserts. What we did was print out the CD labels, and just had our names and wedding date on it. On the cover of the CD case we had our names, and wedding date, on the back of that we put a little poem and a thank you to our guests. then on the back cover we listed the songs and the artists. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Lisa PS...you can buy the CD labels and the insert papers at Comp USA.

As complicated as you make it...(long)

Nina, I was worried the labels would be very difficult too, but it turned out it was pretty simple. The design of the inserts and labels only get tricky if you try to make a complicated design. The more complex, the trickier it can be. But, there is elegance in simplicity. The software we used for our CDs was in a kit by Fellowes, and it had templates for the labels and inserts, which make the design process so easy. Then all you have to do is put their paper in the printer (the correct way) and print. It`s really pretty easy. I was actually thinking about getting into the CD label/insert making business. I would suggest buying refill labels and inserts that go along with whatever kit you get, just so you know it all goes well together. On the insert refills we had, the front covers were like a single-fold booklet, but I just duplicated the images on both halves for the front and back, then cut them in half so I had double the amount of front inserts rather than trying to fill a booklet. On the front of our CDs, we had the title: Our Wedding Album, which was centered across the top. In the center, we had a color picture (from the clip-art included in the kit) of sheet music with two gold rings on it, surrounded by flowers and greenery. Under the picture were two centered lines, one with our names, and one with the date below that. We used burgudy for the font color, with a light gray shadow behind on the lettering. On the inside of the front cover, we had a color picture of the animal we sponsored through a donation, along with his history. Under that, we had a poem expressing our thanks to our guests. On the back cover, we listed all the songs, including artists names. I also added a couple of silly touches .. the CD logo, and I put our last name over the word soundtrack .. like: Smith Soundtrack only I used a really cool font. Oh, and along the spines, I used Our Wedding Album justified to the top, and our names and date justified to the bottom. Putting the labels on the discs and putting the inserts into the jewel cases can be time consuming, but my husband and I worked on them together, so it went much quicker.

Sounds like so much work, but what a great idea.

Thanks for your detailed post Kel

It helps. We're going to look around for the software. It is more work than buying candles or chocolate, but giving cds is my preference, and i gave my FI a burner drive for his bday a few months ago, so I know he is into making the cds, and i can work on the labels. What kind of printer did you use?? I hope my color bubblejet is good enough.

Your welcome ..

I was so happy with the way our labels and inserts came out, I was glad I had to do them. We had originally considered having someone else do them. Anyway, our printer is an Epson Inkjet .. I forget which model number. Be careful when you buy your labels and inserts .. (you may know this already) .. there is the higher quality, like photo paper, and a lower quality, I think called matte. In the kit we bought, it had a few sheets of both, for each part .. the label, the insert, and the insert with spines. Of course the photo paper looked nice, but the matte paper looked fine too. Oh! One more suggestion .. be careful with the blank CDs you use. If your labels are going to be predominantly white, any black lettering on the discs might show through. Most of our CDs were silver on silver, which didn`t show through, but the rest had black print, which came through the white label. So, ms. perfection that I am, sat there and used white out very carefully over the black type before putting the label on. Then, I tested each to make sure it still played okay!
