From my understanding, we do not need to tip the baker, dj, photographer, and videographer.
However, we should tip the make up artist standard 15-20% beauty salon tip and all the people who are doing catering, right?
Why do we have to tip them when they already tack on a 18% service charge!???!??!
Please correct me if I am wrong in any of my assumptions.

Yes, I agree with this. You need to tip: your dj, photographer, videographer, limo drivers (even though there is a 20% gratuity fee included), maitre'd, and bridal attendant. The only way you WOULD NOT have to tip from my understanding is if it is the owner of the company you are using.

Re: To Tip or Not to Tip
We are tipping the videographer, photographer, maitre d, bridal attendant, DJ & MC, floral delivery people and the limo drivers. We are tipping the hair/makeup people more than 20% but I have known my hairstylist for a long time and she is doing hair and makeup so I am giving her extra.

Honestly, I really am not sure. My MC is the owner so, I will not be tipping him. i will probably tip the dj about $75, the photographer $150, videographer $150, maitre'd I am not sure (my hall recommends $800 - $1,000 but they split it with the bridal attendant). Limo's I will probably tip about $100 each driver (I am not too sure about that yet). This is my approximation right now, things could change depending on how much money I have when it gets closer. i would not tip the photogapher/videographer any less than $100 each.
I know, it is crazy to have to do this on top of what you are already paying but that is etiquette for ya...

Re: To Tip or Not to Tip
You dont need to tip anyone who is the owner of their company and you dont need to tip anyone whose tip is already included. SO for your limos you DO NOT need to tip if you're already paying a gratuity fee. Same with your caterer. And to be honest, a 'Tip' is not a necessity. You dont HAVE to tip anyone if you dont have the money or if you feel they dont deserve it. Dont feel bad if you cant tip....you're already paying alot for each service. They should never expect a tip.
We're tipping our dj and his assistant, our florist delivery guys, our hair and makeup people and thats it. Most of the others are either the owners of their business, or we're already paying a 'maitre' d fee' or 'service charge.'

So is the 18% service charge not a gratuity tip?
Do I have to tip all the individual waiters who will be working the day of my wedding?

thats what i think as well, if you are tipping the vendors that already are including it in there pricing then you are giving them two tips...so im with you and im not going to tip anyone that already has it included in the cost.

Re: To Tip or Not to Tip
I agree that you do not HAVE to tip, that is a personal choice, however, it is standard (if you are satisfied with service) to tip anyone who is not the owner of the company.
As far as tipping the hall goes, I would ask your BM- I asked at my hall and they told me whatever I give the MD he/she keeps half and gives the rest to the waitstaff, so we don't have to deal with all those envelopes. I'll prob take care of the bridal attendant seperately. Each hall has different procedures- if they suggest you pay 800$- that seems like an aweful nice tip for only one person- check with your hall's procedures.

I couldn't agree with you more. I refuse to give twice the amount for tipping. That's what the service fee is for ;)

I agree. Tipping should not be a headache to the bride & groom, I know FH & I are not even sweating it. You tip if you want to... period. It is NOT mandatory.

Re: To Tip or Not to Tip
I only tipped the limo and maitre d'.
I did not tip anybody else and don't feel cheap or bad a bit. We spent a lot of money.
Maitre d' was not included in the 18% gratuity and our hall was upfront about it. They told us it was at our discretion to do so. We tipped him because he did a great job.
Everybody else was the owner of their business and I paid them for their services as agreed on our contract. So I don't feel I ripped them off. Actually far from that.

Re: To Tip or Not to Tip
You don't tip the Limo - it's included in the price!! (20% gratuity is added to the price!) If you feel uncomfortable not tipping, ask the driver if they accept tips, they SHOULD tell you it is included in the price. Unless he does something above and beyond what he is supposed to.
With the catering hall - it's an 18% service charge - and unfortunately it does not go to the service staff. My father asked the hall about that and also my fiance used to work for a catering hall. It's just a way of them making it look like their prices are cheaper than they really are :-/
