Well the contract we have signed is for currently is Westbury Manor, but tomorrow im going to see Jericho Terrace and New Hyde Park Inn becasue my mother for some reason has lost her mind and now hates Westbury manor. Things are horrible at home, first its that i got engaged to someone whos not greek, even though he went and asked my dad for my hand (which he said yes) so they new what was coming, then the hall, then its the fact that my fiance isn't a doctor or lawyer (basically have money or come from money), then its that my mom is embarrassed of the inlaws (they just met since they wouldnt meet them before i got engaged) because they wear jeans and sneakers and dont dress up and bla bla bla bla...sometimes I think this is all not worth it and honestly after 6 years of being with him now they have a problem? Today I finally have a civil convo with my mom about new hyde park and she starts crying to me that I can do better and i can find someone with money, and what are other people going to think....and how shes sick over this and im killing her...its beyond drama at this point im ready to give up and say f**k this whole wedding and run away. To much stress, to much ********, and to much heartache and hurt I don't think I can take anymore. I really do not know how I could have gone through all this without the support of my FH, he has been so great and wonderful about it all and understanding that my parents are psycho, hopefully he doesn't snap on me as well one day :(

I'm sorry she's still putting you through this. Maybe try turing the tables on her. Tell her that this is the man you love with all your heart and you don't care what others think when it comes to him or your wedding day because it's YOUR wedding day. You need to stand firm and tell her that she is taking this very joyous time and making it a horrible experience. It isn't FH that ruining this it's her and the fact that she can't be happy for her own daughter. Tell her that you appreciate everything she's done for you growing up but she needs to let you go and you need to live your life.
I have my friend :( today the nice old jewish lady that lives next door yelled at my mom cus she saw how upset i was and told her your not marrying the guy, its her life, if theres love between them what more do u want.....and she went on and on but that mostly wht i could hear by evesdropping, hopefully tom wont be a nightmare, ill text u if it is lol
We're here for you. In 1 week you'll get to get out of your house, relax, and vent to these other lovely ladies. And my house is awalys open if you just need to get out for a bit.

So sorry you are going through this when this should be a happy time. This might be just the beginning of problems with them. Just concentrate on FH and what you two want.

I am so sorry you're going through this too! Just remember it's your day and you get to spend the rest of your life with your amazing FH! In my opinion I don't think changing halls is going to make your mom happy... if you love WM and your FH loves WM then stick with your first feeling. My mom loved the Inn too and offered to pay the difference yada yada, but my heart just wasn't there.

Im sorry hun you are going though this and your mother has no right to be saying things like that and i would tell her u had enough of her BS and to get over it ...and money is not everything b/c once money gets involved it cause more and more problems ....and if u and the FH love westbury manor just stay there b/c in the end its really up to u and him and thats it ...no one else should have a say in that ...u both have to love the place and just b/c she is getting upset dont let that get to u ...in the end u should be happy with everything its NOT her wedding its yours and enjoy it and dont let her being you down

Re: To upset for words
Thank you guys for all the kind words. We saw the Inn at New hyde park and i fell in love, but then when they told us the price i almost fell off my chair, so scratch that idea, we saw Jericho yesterday and now im talking the FH to see it today, i hope he likes it and hopefully hes not to pist off still. I know I like westbury but Jerihco actually offered me a lot more then westbury did, the only thing i dont like was that i wanted an outdoor cocktail hour, and i wanted to have a cigar bar for the grooms side of the family cus they liked that idea, and i hate the idea of not being the only bride there plus i have no idea how good the food is there...im just torn.

Re: To upset for words
I'm so sorry your mom is putting you through this. I hope that she starts to realize that nothing she says is going to stop you from marrying your FH. I can relate a little to what you're talking about. Since my dad died, my grandpa (dads father) tries to take his place and he does not like my FH and thinks that he is not good enough for me. Mostly because he does not have a college degree. FH and I both wish he did have one and he plans to go back to school to get one, but you can't help who you fall in love with and I love him just the way he is. My grandpa keeps telling me to find a doctor or a lawyer or he tells me 'go to Yankee Stadium and bat your eye lashes at one of those ball players, you'll be set for life!' As much as it bothers me, I try to just ignore what he says and I keep reminding myself its MY life and its MY choice and I didn't ask for anyone else's opinions. Actions speak louder then words, and I believe those who say I love you and truly do, will show you with their actions and they will be there for you no matter what! I hope things get better for you soon! Good Luck!
And on a side note lol If you are looking to possibly change halls, not to confuse you even further but did you look at the Sandcastle? They told me that 75% of their brides are either Greek or Italian. They have a veranda room that is outside for part of the cocktail hour space and they offer you a lot of food and the place is very beautiful, and they are 1 wedding at a time. I loved Jericho Terrace and they offer you a lot too, but FH could not get over that they could hold 4 weddings at 1 time. I personally didn't really care but everyone has different priorities when it comes to choosing their hall.

well i guess you and me are in a smilar position when it comes to finding a doctor or a lawyer lol i honestly dont care how much money my FH makes, just as long as hes working and its enough to support us i am happy, yea it would be nice to marry a millionare but at the same time id rather be happy with my FH in a middle class life, rather then rich and miserable. I did look at sandcastle by my cousin got married there last year and another close family friend is getting married there this year, as well as my little cousin is getting married there a month after me in sandcastle, so i really dont want to do it at the same place everyone in my family is

Oh wow yea I wouldn't want to get married at the same place either! My cousin just got married at W. Manor which is why we didn't look there but it is beautiful.
I hope your FH likes Jericho Terrace, we met with Vinny there and we loved him. He was so nice and helpful. My friend used to work there and she said that the food was fabulous, and they give you a ton of food! Also even though they have more then 1 event at a time that they have it down to a science and everything runs perfectly for every party.
Are you thinking about chaining venues because YOU like Jericho more the WM, or are you doing it just for your moms sake?

At this point its for my moms sake. with westbury she wasnt paying a dime and for jericho she said she will pay for everything. So i would rather save my money and put it towards a house and have her pay for the wedding. Its not that i hate jericho, i just wish there was an outdoor cocktail and them having so many weddings at one time. other than that im fine with jericho. hopefully the FH likes it enough where hes happy, if the mother and FH are happy i will be beyond relieved.

I agree with you there, if she is willing to pay for then I'd be all for it too! As long as you're happy and he is happy then that is all that matters. Let us know how it goes when you bring your FH to see it. I hope he likes it and you finally can take a breath and be happy!

Completely understand! My FH is someone I'd never change for the whole world but my family was complaining for 7 years: he has a medical condition. you can find someone else. you're still young. are you sure you want to be with him? find someone you go to school with (because FH was working in Seattle for 4 years and I was still in school) AND His family was saying: they're not from the same 'social class as we are, our families won't match, we have nothing in common-etc'They even tried to set him up on a blind date!***. And we had been dating for 5 years!
It was ridiculous. It was like our parents were dating each other!
Then his parents found out he has some kind of medical condition that is autoimmune related and they're suddenly okay with us dating. They're even harassing me to have kids now, even if its out of wedlock- I think because they're worried their son won't want to marry anyone else if they break us up.
We just gave up. We give them respect where it's due and we're paying for everything ourselves. That's it. They're invited if they keep their opinions to themselves. If they can't. They can skip out that day.
Ultimately, Its you and your FH, and you will become a family together. If they want in, they have to compromise.
Hope it's turning out for the better. :)

I'm sorry you're going through this! I can relate, but not on the same scale. My parents won't admit that they aren't happy that I'm marrying my FH. He's a great guy and treats me really good, but doesn't have the best job, has some anxiety issues, extremely shy, and has a house with his ex-fiancee that I'm moving into a week. So, I hope things get better for you! We are here for you!

Re: To upset for words
Hi! I was searching the boards for 'greek' because I am a partial greek and need help with my custom wedding ceremony but I couldn't help but read about the strife you are going through with your family.
This sounds awfully familiar to what my dad when through when he married my mom. My dad is greek and my mom is catholic. His family was in an uproar about it. It was such a problem, in fact, that my parents had TWO wedding ceremonies: one in the greek orthodox church and the second in the roman catholic church, all before heading to their wedding reception in the middle of a snowstorm!!
It's not easy and there is no real advice I can offer you, other than to understand that sometimes life is hard, but so are you. You are a strong greek woman and you can handle whatever is thrown at you. If you love this man and you want to share your life with him, that is the most important thing. Everyone faces sh*t in life: some more than others, and some sooner in life than others, but it comes to everyone.
If you ever want to vent, let me know. :)
