My mother is completely against a wedding planner...she thinks it's a waste of money...I feel like none of my family is helping me plan this thing. It's so frustrating as FH and I are in the process of buying a home..I just started a new job...he is going back to school..and I have no 'real' help from friends and fam. I want someone who I know is going to come through for me and my mother thinks its a huge waste of $$ since we have some of the vendors already she feels as though I've already done half of the work. My parents are paying for it..so basically whatever they say goes..so should I just pay for a DOC myself??

I was under the impression that a DOC is just for day of stuff, not full planning (that would be a wedding planner)
maybe price them out and run it by your mom first, but if you really think it is necessary pay for one yourself?

a DOC is just that---a day of coordinator...they don't really help you 'plan' the wedding. they can be helpful for the big day. but honestly, unless you are having a huge platinum wedding style event....i don't think an actual wedding planner is necessary. i know it seems like you have a lot going on-- but you still have more than a year to go before the big day.....i'm sure you can handle it!
as for a DOC--they can be great for handling things on the day of the wedding so you don't have to worry about it....like bringing programs & petal cones to a church, handing out all the tips, making sure everything is running smooth.

Many reception halls have a wedding coordinator for you for the day of the wedding, as well as many churches. Maybe before you hire someone for only that day find out if your ceremony site and RH has one. They often do most of the same things a DOC would do and its free. I'm not hiring one, just making due with the ones available to me and using my mom and sister.
