Hi ladies! My FH & I are paying for the wedding & trying to stay on budget. We are considering not getting a videographer. What do you think?

Re: To video or not to video?
I say get a videographer. One of my friends got married in April and his best man gave the best speech EVER, but since there was no videographer there, they will never be able to see or hear it again.
Also, just because you have a video doesn't mean you have to watch it every month in order for it to be worth the money. For example, do you plan to wear your wedding dress, veil and headpiece regularly after the wedding?
The video and photos may be worth more in a few years than right away. Think about in ten years when some of your loved ones will no longer be around...won't you want to be able to show your children or grandchildren or nieces and nephews a video of these people dancing and laughing?
Many videographers offer various packages, so you may want to get the most minimal package (just the raw footage), and then later you can have it edited if you so choose (and can afford).

I say get it.
FSIL just had her uncle tape the ceremony and he just got the first dance, bok toss, garter toss and mother/son and fatherdaughter dance at the reception. In the four years I've known FH, I've watched it myself 4 times (with everyone!)
The family watches it every so often, and she says even though she has something she regrets SO much not having a videographer.

Get video if you can...doesn't have to be some fancy package with crazy editing. You can get something basic that captures the day. I saw & heard things i didn't remember from that day...and am happy to have older family members captured on video forever.

We are the same way!
We decided to get the minimal package. Film the wedding, all special dances, speeches, sake cutting and then stink it on a tri-pod in the corner. It was $1500 but Id rather have it and not watch it then not have and regret

Re: To video or not to video?
I totally lean toward the YES video and photo. That was my one splurge and I don't regret it at all. I love our video and photos and that is what I'll have as a memory and to show my kids in the future. It's the little things that the photos may not catch that the video does catch, such as the way he looks at you when you're announced 'husband and wife' or the way you danced your first dance, or the way your father gives you that last kiss on the cheeck as his 'little girl.' My mother loves to watch my video, and does so quite often.

I would just have someone in the family who wouldnt mind taping it for you...you know someoene you can trust to do a good job and not get wasted and be swinging the video camera around...I am not getting one we def can't afford it!

I wasn't going to get one until my DOC got me with the question 'Well how would you liked to have watched your grandmother's wedding video, or even your mom's wedding video?' Truth be told, I would have loved it and would have been fascinated by it, especially now since my grandma is sick. Although you may not have watched it all that many times, I'm sure future generations will appreciate it and it could even have the sense of a family heirloom. I wan't my grandkids to know that 'grandma once had it going on' lol.

We are paying for the wedding ourselves also and we are having one. I just know that I will miss something and wants to see it all.

A pervious bride (friend of my brothers and 07 bride on here) gave me great advice. She said that after the wedding is said and done the pictures and the videos are all you have (besides the memories!!)
I would cut corners somewhere else and get the video!!

Re: To video or not to video?
Yup.. FH and will have the same problem when the time comes.
His cousin mentioned something which is a little morbid and not something you want to think about but it did make me think. His cousin hasn't watched his wedding in years and years. The reasons are because important members of the family who passed away since then are obv in the video and for many it's too hard to watch. Although, the reverse could be true. Because members are no longer with us that would be something to remind us of them.
I do think you miss a lot at your own wedding but it might realistically come down to $$. Check with your photogrpher to see if they can work something out. Sometimes in the end they might just throw it in for a extra 100 or so.
Be careful though, i WOULD NOT get a videographer from a separate company from the photographer unless they already know each other and have worked with one another in the past. I have seen it sooooo many times where the photographer and videographer are going for the same shot. If they aren't careful you'll end up seeing photographers in ur video and video equiptment in ur pictures.
k... my essay is over lol
