To Video, or not to Video...

To Video, or not to Video...

I have a photographer booked, but FH and I are both leaning against having a videographer for a multitude of reasons. Anyone else in that position and what's your reason?
Also, anyone strongly against the idea of not having a videographer and why?
And finally... just incase... anyone have any good rec's on a company who does only video?

Thanks ladies!

fh and i weren't going to do one, but we ended up deciding to do it, just becausei feel that as amazing as pictures are, video will capture more..and it sounds horrible, but what if someone close to you is at your wedding and then passes away-you'll always have that video of them..

as for recs, try halo, orange films, pennylane-all these do video

FH originally didn't want a videographer. His thought was 'when are we REALLY going to watch it????'

Then my sister made a really good point. He will be dancing with his mom, I'll be dancing with my dad. One day, (as morbid as it is) they won't be around any more. It'll be a great way to be able to look back and re-live those dances and memories.

Also, it's something I want to be able to show my children one day. And who knows, maybe we'll want to watch it on our 50th anniversary or something

Honestly we both doubted this in the beginning. We were almost certain to not get one, but then something just clicked and we knew we needed it. When I was little my sister and I used to go to my neighbor's house just to watch her wedding video, we did it all the time. I kind of feel at least with us with the ceremony, you're actually in it so it would be nice to watch it afterwards and see how you said your vows and how you looked as you walked down the aisle and how the guests reacted, or when you walk in all the fun stuff. Plus with seeing all the video clips on here it makes me really want it even more. So, we are getting it but it's totally a personal decision, I know some people who aren't and theyre fine with that, good luck!

FH & I where also on the fence with this. we just think that we are going to watch the video once & have it collect dust for the rest of time but from what everyone else says, the day goes so quickly that we want to be able to see how it went & everyone's reactions. we are putting a lot of hard work & a lot of money into this wedding i would like more then just the pictures

At first, we were dead set against it. After reading many girls reviews and opinions, we decided to do it. Many girls say that the day goes by so fast that you miss so much - and I don't want to miss anything. JMO.

I'm using Thomas Paul for photo & video.

Photography/Video was one of my most important vendors I am such a picture person and I knew I'd get a kick out of having video to catch anything I missed or just to see ourselves having a ball! Personally, I would probably look at my video a lot because I'm just that kind of person (very sentimental), lol. I think it would be great to have just to look back in on 20 years from now or to invite your family over to watch with you

We aren't having one. One of our friends is recording the ceremony with their video camera and that is enough for me. The reasons are (1) I will have a picture in my head of how things went that day. I dont want a video to change my memories. My SIL saw some things on her video that ruined alot of her memories. (2) cant see spending money on something that may be watched a few times. (3) the videographer ruined FHs BM speech and he hates all videographers since then:)

only video companies i have no recs sorry, but I will say of all my friends who have gotten married in the past three years (6 people) two didn't have video and now they each regret it. Yeah you may only watch it two or three times, but its memories you will always have. I have heard people really have regrets. One of those friends had a friend of ours tape her ceremony and he forgot to press record. Now she has nothing and she is the one who has actually cried about not getting video. Id get it, jmo

i was think the same thing to save money not have one but everyone told us we sjould that in years later we can go and see and hear all the moments and our chlidren can watch. also i explained this to my photographer and she said if we due just raw footage and no editing it would be a lot cheaper so we are doing that we will have a viedo but no editing and the price really dropped.

I'm not getting one. My main reason is because for me, its a waste of money. I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars on something I will watch only maybe twice. I know myself and I will never watch it so I would rather get an amazing photographer and spend the money there. However, if someone knows they are going to watch it thousands of times, then I think its worth it....but for me personally, I know we won't, so we opted to put the money elsewhere.

Re: To Video, or not to Video...

These are precisely the reasons that I am now questioning the initial thought that we were not going to have one. I too have heard that you miss a lot, and you can't be everywhere at once. Also I hadn't thought about the parent factor - that it will be nice to have when one day they aren't around anymore.

I have to be honest here - we're both really, really shy when we're the center of attention (this is true for me in all situations EXCEPT when i'm in court - go figure!). The thought of having ourselves captured on a video camera makes us feel very awkward. But perhaps if we find the right person who we're confident won't be intrusive and in our personal space, we can make it work.

Thanks SO MUCH all of you!!!!

We're not having video. We just find them to be bothersome. I hate watching myself on video... so we're gonna pass. I'll have a cousin tape the ceremony... & major dances that'll do for us.

We're also trying to be fiscally resonsible and not overspend.

As with a lot of other people FH weren't going to get video from Day 1. Once we booked the photographer and i started doing more research i realized this was something that i def wanted. I am going to miss so much from my wedding and i want to re-live everything. Even if my children watch it once then it'll be worth it imo. I wish my parents had a wedding video.. i'd love to see it!!

We are using my DJ company for video.

I've seen a couple of NWs post on BHB that the video is SO worth it to have. You'll get to watch the memories forever; there's some things a photog just can't capture. Plus, you'll be able to show it to your kids someday.

i think its totally worth it

you spend thousands and thousands of dollars on the wedding itself and by the time its over the night is a blur. yea you have photos to look at, but to actually see what the day and night were like in action- is worth every penny. plus you always have funny memories when something is caught on camera. i know we will watch the video at least once a year on our anniversary as a tradition. I also want our kids to see what our wedding day was like.
