I have a photographer booked, but FH and I are both leaning against having a videographer for a multitude of reasons. Anyone else in that position and what's your reason? Also, anyone strongly against the idea of not having a videographer and why? And finally... just incase... anyone have any good rec's on a company who does only video?
Thanks ladies!

Re: To Video, or not to Video...
We are getting a video. I know I will watch it since I love watching other people's. Its nice to look back and relive the day, hear the music that was played, see your friends and family having a great time. I feel like the day will go by way too fast and I want to be able to see all the little details I may miss.

we are getting video.
fh and i were originally totally against getting video...why spend the money if we will probably only watch it once or twice?! But then everyone kept telling us that we will totally regret it if we don't. My sister who got married a year and a half ago said not getting video was the only thing she regrets from her wedding...bc the day goes so fast you miss so much.
Plus...think about how awesome it will be to show your future children (if you plan to have any) your wedding video....i am sure they will love to watch mommy and daddy getting married

FH does not want video to this day even though we already booked with Halo. He prefers to have quality pics with albums. I think it will be great to see my grandmother and other families having a great time. For me, I just made it fit in our budget and he said 'OK' as long as afterwards he is able to buy a professional album.

I was totally against it until I saw one person's video on here and that totally changed my mind! I want my children to see the family all together and I want to be able to see my wedding put together. Both of my sisters are married and they both say that they don't remember much from the wedding day because the day goes by sooo fast for the bride and groom. I don't want to spend all that money and not be able to relive the moments. Pictures are AWESOME but video allows you to really re-live the moments during your wedding.

We will be using a videographer. We want to remember the day and you can't remember every detail from pictures alone. And FMIL would go crazy if we didn't have video for her to look at and show off to people. I personally think it's something nice to have and to look at later on in life. It is a very special day and I would like to be able to re-visit it once in a while.
My friend isn't having a video taken of her wedding; but that is because they couldn't afford it. So if you have the money in your budget for it and you decide you do want a video, I say go for it.

Get it!! Your wedding will go so fast and you'll get to live it over and over again. You might regret not getting one and if you do there's nothing you can do about it after the fact.

I've seen a couple of NWs post on BHB that the video is SO worth it to have. You'll get to watch the memories forever; there's some things a photog just can't capture. Plus, you'll be able to show it to your kids someday.
ITA , I can't wait to show my kids so they can be like, 'Mom your wedding was so 2010'

Always wanted a video. I know i probably wont watch it much., but its great to have. This is one day of your life that i feel you should have all the remembrance as possible. And it is going to go by so fast and you are going to miss so many little things that at least you have something to go to, to recap the night live.
Try SilverFox... they do both photo and video or either or. and if you dont want to get a crazy edited video you don't have too.

yes we are def getting one! we are using thomas paul for our photo and video. there are many parts of our wedding and reception that i want to re-live and see what i missed. and see family members one day that may no longer be there anymore... and look back and see them giving well wishes... and it will also be so much fun to look back and re-live the day. my sister just picked up and viewed her wedding video with her DH and they could not stop cracking up looking at what they missed and re-living the whole thing.

I am doing a video because I want to relive the day as much as possible. I also want to show my kids as well as grandkids, etc. Also I think videos are priceless memories. I have soo many videos of my grandparents that I love to watch. I get to hear their voice again and see them just like I remember them. I think a video is really important.

Re: To Video, or not to Video...
We were against it, but then we booked photography with Golden Moments and 'humored' them by looking into the video and we absolutely fell in love with their style. It was unlike all the other videos we ever saw. We crimped numbers and added to our budget for the videography.
I did also start to think about a few things.. as a bride and groom you don't get to see your Bridal party enter the hall, or yourselves enter as well as other 'moments' that occur that may be caught on camera.
Also, My grandparents will be there as well as other older relatives who may not be around much longer (knock on wood) and it would be good to be able to go back in the future and re-see everyone and re-see the 'happiest day of our lives' and how we shared it with them.
Also, we were worried b/c in a few years technology will advance and we were like... we probably can't even watch the DVD in 10yrs from now, but the company told us that if technology advances, the way they store the video (and it's backups) they can try to put it in the 'new' format, obviously based on exactly how technology advances this may not be 100% true, but it seems like a safety net now..

Re: To Video, or not to Video...
We watch my sister's wedding video all the time. It is just so funny, because you can't be everywhere! Also, my brother is a crazy dancer (think wedding crashers with serious pointing hand motions) and it was so funny to laugh at him while he popped up (literally jumping out of the crowd) all over the dance floor! I got to hear my wonderful speech again (go me). I got to see FH catch the garter while I caught the bouquet and now know we're getting married. I got to see friends and family dancing and offering warm wishes and I got to see RAW FOOTAGE, which is sooooooooooooooooo funny that alone, it's worth all the money!
If you're looking for an inexpensive videographer here is one I know of: http://www.jlproductionsny.com
He's not a vendor on here, but I've seen a lot of his work and it's really good quality for the price.

Re: To Video, or not to Video...
I was dead set against a video but when I thought about my grandparents and how my children may never get to meet them, this way they can see and hear what they were like. Also, my parents and his parents will not be here forever either it will be nice to put it on when we celebrate our big anniversarys and your children can always keep it as a memento as well. You will also be able to see everything that went on. Its your choice but in the end I think its worth it even if you watch it 3 times.

You miss so much of your day - even if you watch it a couple of times it is worth it for the memories - a girl i know watches her every anniversary.
So many people who got married and didn't have one that i knwo told me how much the regret it
