TODAY IS..**UPDATED**

My official quit smoking day...
I'm tired of waking up with sore throats and bad headaches If I quit today by the time my Birthday comes around in May it will be 6 months...I had my last cig. this morning...any suggestions on how to fight the cravings? my stomach hurts already....eeekkk

Ladies still not one single smoke...not even a cheat...today I think is the worst this is the 4th day, and I'm a little on edge but tootsie roll lollie pops work wonders and def. help with the urges! SO FAR SO GOOD!

Good luck!!!! I know how hard it is! I stopped (but started again) 2 years ago...

I have one pack left and I am telling myself that when it is done, I am done too! I really want to quit!!

Re: TODAY IS...

FMIL when she quit started eating sunflower seeds (shelled & unsalted) she kept them on her at all times and whenever she had a craving she would start eating them. Since they were shelled it would take her a long time to eat them and it fought off her cravings plus since she ate seeds instead of snacking she only gained like 5 pounds.

Re: TODAY IS...

i wanna say i quit but technically it only has been two months. I quit by not having time to step out at work or school for a cigarette. I have tried before but this really helped. I know it sounds funny. It's the hardest when you go out with friedns who smoke because thats when you want one. But now the smell and smoke bother me. You can do it, just dont buy any packs and stay away from ppl who smoke.

Someone I know quit by doing a study at Columbia University. She goes once a month for followups and its been almost a year.

I have never smoked ever so I dont know how hard it can be but hang in there. Its all about will power. I have read it takes 2 weeks to get rid of cravings. Thats for anything even snacks and stuff.

Try to avoid smoker friends in places were they smoke (and never stand outside with anyone while they are smoking). If your FH does not smoke or you quite together it will be much easier. Cold turkey quitting can works and you will feel a million times better (and so will your teeth and skin!). Good luck!

It feels like these hours are taking forever instead of going out to the smoking booth at lunch time I walked around forever...my legs hurt lol

I hope this works because I really want to do it, but FH is a pack a day smoker and has no intentions of quitting...I'll be the strong one .

Thanks for the support ladies I'll keep you updated

Good luck! I quit years ago and I went on the patch and substituted altoids for cigarettes - my breath went from smelling like an ashtray to being very minty. I highly suggest you try it because this will also help you from eating junk to compensate for not smoking. When your mouth is minty, you don't really want to eat.

Re: TODAY IS..**UPDATED**

Congrats!!!!! You're doing great!!!

I've never smoked, so I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to try and quit.

My mother quit cold turkey twenty years ago when cigarette prices went up to $2 a pack (I think she'd have a stroke if she knew what they cost now! LOL) Every time she went to the store, she would put the money she would spend on cigarettes in a jar. She was able to pay for her and my father to go to the Virgin Islands on vacation every winter for five years. (Imagine what you could do with the money now?)

I had another friend who started yoga and he said that it didn't help the cravings so much as it helped take the edge off.

You're going to be so glad you quit! I certainly don't want to get on a soapbox, but I have to tell you that the absolute worst day of my life was the day the doctor told me that I had cancer. They've told me from day one that I'm going to beat this and be fine. But they also said that if they found the tumor I had in my chest in my lung, they would be talking about how much time I had left. Do whatever it is you have to do now to avoid ever hearing that diagnosis because it is THE WORST THING EVER TO GO THROUGH!

*ok...now I'm off my soapbox...I just don't wish what I'm going through on anybody else!*

Good luck and you are doing great!!!!
