Today was the worst day of my life UPDATE

Original post by PoppedInASnap

Update:
I also had 8 cc opened BUT those are cleared (so i was told)
The orders are in England. Go figure. So they can't be charged for grand larsany...(however you spell it)
As of now I am keeping cool. Thank you for the prayers, I think they gave me strength today (Although i was yelled at by a police officier for crying and he said 'how do i know your not the one making these purchases'..)
Oh well...

Thanks again!

So, I get online and see that my bank account is cleared. Yes, cleared. Someone used my debit card number on 42 large transactions (and I am talking like, 2,000-10,000 dollars.

I called and cancelled the account but I was told 100 different things and now find out I may not get my money back because I was not enrolled in a 'Identity theft program' through my bank. Are you serious?

So, I now have not a dollar to my name until my next paycheck and fh and I unless I get my money back, will not have the money for a wedding for next year...

Oh and did I mention now I may have to cancel traveling to WDW because I refuse to borrow money?

So please, just keep my in your prayers tonight because I really need strength ...

Aww! I'm sorry, I hope everything works out!

ETA: At my job we usually have large transactions and they usually put a hold on the card they'll call the card holder and review the transaction before it can go through.

i have no words--that's really awful. just keep fighting, esp since the transactions are still pending. most banks have insurance for things like that, and may simply deny the vendor for their lack of security in accepting the card #. good luck

OMG hunny. I am sooo sorry. What kind of bank doesn't notice these type of charges?!?!?!? I would call and call and call and call and call until somebody does something about it. How can they not give you your money back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought all banks had some sort of idenity theft thing where if they catch it they can refund your money up to a certain point. The whole thing that irks me-is that they didnt catch it-you did. They're obviously not doing their job. I really hope you can get this sorted out-i feel so bad for you and am sending lots of hugs and prayers that they fix this.

I am so sorry to hear this. But you should get every penny back! I mean they are more at fault for not questioning the first $9,000 transaction!!! Good luck at the bank, do you know how they got it??

there has to be something can be done, we are not talking about minimal amounts here. I would just keep climbing the ladder at the bank and if that doesnt work, I would contact the television stations!!

I am so sorry that has happened to you. It is very sad that someone could do that to someone. I am sure things will fall into place. The bank has to do something and refund you regardless if you have a protector planor not. I am sorry.

I am so sorry this happen to you and the bank should have notified you that there was 10 or more odd transactions going on. That is a red flag. When we first bought our house we went on a spending spree for furniture and we spent like $6,000 in one day at different stores. Well the the last 2 stores we went to DH had an issue and they needed to call. Come to find out our bank flagged his account for suspicious large amounts being charged. He had to speak to bank at the store to let them know that yes we did buy all these then they unflagged the account.

Something does not sound right here and I think you should switch banks because you do not need to be under there Identity program to be safe. That is their job to see all this happening. Please file a police report so that maybe they can track down the person and also seek a lawyer. You are due all your monies back that were taken. No if and or buts about it. I hope things work out and I am really sorry that the bank is totally lying to you. Keep us updated and I will keep you in my prayers.

I agree. If such large transactions are taking place they should of notified you to see if your card was stolen. I would go after the bank. That is insane. I am so sorry. I don't know what I would do in this situation.
