Too early to panic?

Too early to panic?

So my FH got laid off today. He's a union guy and they are saying it'll be 9 months before he gets work. Wedding is just under 1 year away.We went with a hall that would be a bit of a financial struggle for us but we figured we could cut expenses and make it happen. But now I'm worried.I know this just happened today but...my mind is racing with worry.

He can always try to get work in another field until his union jobs start to open up. In the meantime live smart and frugal, coupons and eating in and all that good stuff and don't worry too much yet.

We'll keep our eyes and ears open for jobs and keep out fingers crossed for you. What does FH do?

He's an electrician (Local 3)...I wish it was that easy,he might be able to pick up a side job here and there. But without his steady income, I think we have to change halls.

Thanks for your positive thoughts!! I need that

I know it's hard and overwhelming right now. That's why I'm saying don't worry too much yet, you never know what could hapen. What I meant by another job is work outside his field (which I now know to be electrical), you know, something he probably wouldn't be crazy about doing but would get him a few bucks and be easy to walk away from if something with the union comes along.

And it's not fantastic, but there's unemployment(?) Probably not comparable, but something for now...

You'll get through it, and you'll be the ones make the best decisions for yourselves, but don't be too hasty right away.

First off I am sorry to hear this...my advice to you is to go with your heart. If you think keeping this RH is really gonna hurt you financially on top of everything else maybe the wise choice would be to look elsewhere. I know I wouldn't want to be paying my wedding off for years to come when there are so many other expenses out there you have to worry about.

But if this RH really means alot to the two of you...maybe you could possibly change the date to an off-peak time of year. That would save you loads.

My FH got laid off about a year ago he's been doing side jobs and gettin jobs here and there while goin to school but i figure everything happens for a reason and that its for the best a better job will come along and it will be a better one. Where there is a will theres a way! good luck!

It **** s that ur FH got laid off. Its not too soon to worry, but it is time for you to figure out what is most important and come up with a plan.

Its probably best if you two sit down and figure out your finances and bills taking into account unemployment, but not potential side jobs b/c those aren't a guarantee.

Since you are already getting married in an off-season month, see if you can reduce the wedding expenses more, by say moving the wedding back, reducing courses or changing the day. If that would still be a stretch, you can always call your hall and see if they will work with you. After that, then you can figure out if its best to change halls.

Hope things get better.

No, it's not too early to panic- you're smart for thinking this way.

How much have you already invested in your RH? I would say before you make another monthly payment, you should scout other RH's to see what they would charge you.

Your invites haven't gone out and now is the time to make this decision. If the savings will be considerable (and I have a feeling they will be) then it may be wise to change. You should go back to your RH with this information and see if they can do something- but get some numbers first.

Lots of girls went through this on the '09 board and I can say that all had great weddings. Your FH may find a job tomorrow....but it may not happen so quickly. I hope eveything works out. My advice comes from the heart and I can tell you that FH and I are financially comfortable and we kinda struggled at the end- things you don't factor in- tips ect...easily another $3000 .

Sorry to hear about your FH! Hopefully things will work out for him. Will he be able to collect unemployment in the meantime?

Aside from looking at other RH, maybe you can contact your current hall and see if they will work out a different payment plan with you. I don't know if they're flexible on that kind of thing though..
