As you can see, we are getting married 12/1/12. In my mind, registering is the last thing i'm wanting to take care of because we have so much time. My concern is that items may get discontinued (one of my friends had that problem for registering so early) or not be available.
Last week at work, 3 separate people came up to me to ask if we were registered yet. My guess is that those people want to get us an engagement gift. We also haven't even decided if we want to have an engagment party yet.
One specific person told me I should register because if I don't, our engagment will get old over time and people may forget to give us a gift.
so...my question to you ladies, is it too early to register?

I think no matter how long you wait items can still get discontinued or become out of stock. I purposely waited longer to register for these reasons, and I just had a nightmare w/ Macy's bc the1st bedding set I chose was discontinued and the 2nd is out of stock.

I had the SAME thing happen to me with registering. I can tell you that as much as you think people will give gifts because you are engaged, in my experience they didn't. For example, I have cousins that were VERY upset they were invited to our engagement party, I told my mom 'they can't be that close to us, we never got an engagement gift'! We got engaged January, in March/April my cousin told me she's been stalking our registry to see what I register for and changes I make, the e-party was in June and they didn't know about it until May, so therefore, they were never getting us a gift anyway. The point is, don't think your engagement will get old so people will stop giving gifts. People just don't give gifts for weird reasons.
As for this getting discontinued, this happened to me and it wass HEART breaking! 2 months before my shower my china pattern became discont! If you want to register, I would say register for things like corningware, bakeware, pots, etc. Don't register for your china or bedroom sets until closer to the wedding/shower so that you have a better idea of what is out there and what is there to stay.

i registered about 18 months before my wedding. definitely not too early.

most things at BBB don't get discontinued as often as Macy's or other stores FYI
i didn't register for bedding yet because i heard that that is somethign that often gets discontinued
