too early to register???

too early to register???

ok...I need some thoughts here.

As you can see, we are getting married 12/1/12. In my mind, registering is the last thing i'm wanting to take care of because we have so much time. My concern is that items may get discontinued (one of my friends had that problem for registering so early) or not be available.

Last week at work, 3 separate people came up to me to ask if we were registered yet. My guess is that those people want to get us an engagement gift. We also haven't even decided if we want to have an engagment party yet.

One specific person told me I should register because if I don't, our engagment will get old over time and people may forget to give us a gift.

so...my question to you ladies, is it too early to register?

I don't think it is too early. I registered about 1.5 years before my wedding date. I had tons of people asking me if I had a registry etc. and actually got around 50 gifts for engagement and I didn't have an engagement party. It was great that it was things that I actually needed/wanted. What you can do is not pick things that could get discontinued.. like leave off bedding until it gets close to the wedding. HTH!

I don't think it is too early. Our wedding is feb 2013. Family and friends keep asking if we registered yet. The only reason we haven't, is because we will be moving into our house soon, so we need to figure out what we actually need after we get in. For our engagement, friends mostly got us Gift Cards for places we will need. Family got us cooking appliances, vases, etc.

Maybe you can register for the items that wouldn't likely discontinue, or things you only need 1 of. Like electrics and pots. I wouldn't register for your china, because that's usually fulfilled by multiple people since it's 12+ settings and it might run out in the meantime.

I might do two rounds of registering?

Maybe less pricey things for the engagement, plus items you might want for the wedding (cake servers, toasting flutes, etc)

and maybe wait on some of the other items (dishes, bedding, etc) for the Shower?

You can register for a few pieces that you like in at least one store. People love to have a list to choose from when buying engagement gifts!

I would register for some of the more 'timeless' items less likely to go out of production...such as china, stemware, flatware, toasting flutes, etc.

You'd e surprised how many times I've had to re-choose a toaster oven. Donm't register for towels, bedding, etc.

We registered because I was tired of hearing people say where are you registered. We did not have an engagement party but people bought some stuff for us from our registry as a congrats on being engaged.

We are going to update our registry in the next few weeks and then probably again when it gets closer.

It's never to early to start your registry. FH and I registered for a few things before our E-Party in case people wanted to give us a gift instead.

My wedding is june of 2012 and I plan on registering in may. I don't think its too early, I have the same issue as you, everyone keeps asking and buying me things I wouldn't register for so I am jsut going to. Also just keep an eye out if things get discontinued!

I don't know why you wouldn't register for china now. I registered when we first got engaged. We did not have an e-party and BEFORE my shower I had all my main dishes for my every day (it comes as individual pieces) and 7 place settings and several serving pieces of the fine, and this was with no e-party. China is expensive and there are a LOT of pieces. I'd definitely give people more time to buy it for you. Believe me, there are always more things to buy. As I mentioned people bought me a lot of stuff when I got engaged and for birthdays and christmas and I had my shower last week and seriously there is still SO MUCH stuff left that I need. I don't think it's a problem.

I registered online for a dozen items or so from Williams Sonoma in case guests from our small e-party wanted to get something for us. I plan on doing a full blown registry at one or two other places after the engagement party is over.

ITA! I think you can register for small things liek engagement gifts now and later, closer to your wedding you can register for other larger items.

I set up my registry a couple of months ago and alot of my things are already discontinued :( So i had to go back and remove some stuff and switch it with newer stuff.

I didn't register for my shower because new items come out n things get discontinued...for our engagement party we mostly got money n a few gifts..I wished I created a small registry though just so we received items that we wanted or needed

Do it now. You can always update later. Things are constantly being discontinued, or just no longer carried by a store, or with macys it says they are but the reorder it anyway. LOL.

I dont think it is too early....but I would only put on the basics......Def leave the bedding for last since that is one of the most common things to be discontinued.
