Does anyone else feel like their wedding is turning into a circus???????
I had planned on having around 250, which is big to begin with, but now the list is up to 320!!!!! I know people say to expect 20% not to come but what if they do???????
I don't want this many people at my wedding!!!!!!!
It's just hard because we both have big families and I have a lot of friends and he has a lot of work friends.
It's not even so much about the money, it's more that I don't want to be so overwhelmed the day of my wedding and have to spend the WHOLE time talking to people.
I want to enjoy my wedding, not have to spend the entire night greeting everyone!!!!!

Re: Too Many People
Oh I can totally relate...it's ridiculous. I'm at a point that I'm going to seriously chop everyone out of it...friends I haven't seen in over 1 year, co-workers I socialize with outside of work only, etc. It's a pain.

we invited over 350 250 and change showed up we were more worried about the money with all the people if everyone showed up but to be honest the more people that are there i think the better the party will be

Re: Too Many People
don't feel too bad...i wanted like 50-80 MAX. the guest list [in the end] was over 300. so many people don't come though...we had 165. still too many in my opinion...i wanted a small, intimate wedding...not a circus. i got a circus. [not that my day was awful by any means, but i am more comfortable in tiny crowds....so i wanted that for my wedding day]

Re: Too Many People
Can't you cut back? How many does your room hold? That many CAN be a bit overwhelming. Maybe you can go over your list with your FH and parents and see if there are people you can cross off - this way you'll feel a little better. You can always put them on a B list!

Re: Too Many People
i understand how you feel. although, my wedding is much smaller than yours, percentage-wise, i'm going through the same thing. my wedding guest list exploded by 36%.
i'm also hoping that some can't make it.
i wouldn't worry too much. it's your day and spend it how you want. if that means not greeting everyone, then so be it

Re: Too Many People
The problem with cutting is that I sent out the Save the Dates already. I sent them to all of my friends, my and my FH's families.
The only people that did not get them were some of my Mom's friends, FH's work friends and some people on FH's parents list that FMIL told me not to send because she was not sure if she was inviting them.
I kind of hope she doesn't invite them but I feel bad pushing her not to. I don't want to insult anyone but it is a little crazy!!!
THanks for all the posts, you guys did make me feel better!!! I am hopeful that between 250 and 280 will show - I am okay with that
Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

That is a good way to look at it!! I am a PARTY GIRL!!!!!! I am just going to try to let it go for now, there is no sense in stressing I guess because I am not going to know the outcome until the responses come in and I may end up worrying for nothing.
Thanks again for all the support

If it makes you feel any better, I got screwed by sending my own Save the Dates, too. I sent them to a few people I work with (I had JUST started working at my job when I got engaged) who I REALLY don't want to invite now! In fact, I'm throwing etiquette out the window in a few cases and not inviting them despite giving them Save the Dates! oh well!!! If I didn't send those darn, devilish save the dates, my guest list would have been down about 20 people!!

LOL LOL LOL I know!!!!! You think you are doing the right thing by sending those out and then you get SCREWED!!!!!!!!!
As of now I am still planning on inviting everyone I sent them to but we'll see in a few months when I have to have my final headcount to order the invites!!!!!!!
It's nice to know some people share my pain!!!!
Thanks

Re: Too Many People
I totally understand what you are saying and just want to warn you, since your wedding is 7 months away, that number may increase!
Our guest list is a lot higher than I initially thought it would be and wanted it to be! A lot higher. Instead of going from table to table, we are going to give a speach to thank everyone for coming. We will visit certain tables but, we know our friends would rather be with us on the dance floor than sitting at the table talking to us.
Our room is big enough to accomodate every guest we invite so I'm not thinking it will be a 'circus' per se, just overwhelming to me being the bride.

Re: Too Many People
I understand what you are going through...We originally had a guest list of over 300! So we changed it to a DW wedding and we still have to invite 160 people. We are hoping that only about 50 show up! I'm sure many people will not come...Don't worry

Re: Too Many People
that is why our Max is 140, we are absoultely not going over that. so many people say... oh i really want to come, but the chances of them not coming are very high if they live OOT. So those people will get pics & possible a DVD. Weddings are too expensive to invite everybody.

Re: Too Many People
The speech thing is a GREAT idea
I know FH's family will be TOTALLY insulted if we do not go over to their tables but I guess we could go over to the 'family' tables and then just thank everyone else in a nice speech
That's a good idea
I am also planning on going to part of the cocktail hour so I can talk to some people there too

Re: Too Many People
I think the simplest solution is just to book a hall with a low minimum. No room means no more guests can be invited.
I am having a small function of 100 minimum and inviting 127.
I think that the more people you invite, the more 'no's' you may get 'cus there will be more casual friends and acquaintances among those people. And those are normally the ones who find a reason to not come.

I wouldn't worry too much. We were worried over the same problem. We invited 210, we had 150.

That doesn't always work if there's a low minimum, you need to find a room that has a low max capacity to limit the number of guests!

curliegirl helped me with the speach idea and FH was excited about it. We aren't huge speach people but, everyone will be looking at us anyway!
The cocktail hour thing is good too. I originally wanted to do our whole CH but, I want to hang out in the bridal suite for a bit first so I can actually eat a little.
