My sister (a BM) and my flowergirl both have very short hairstyles right now. The flowergirl cut her own hair last month and now has a pixie cut. My sister's hair is almost boylike (she thinks it's easier to maintain). Truth be told, I don't think it flatters either one of them.
Question: Can I ask them to grow it out for my wedding or is that unbelievably rude?

IMO- I dont think it is nice or appropraite to ask them to grow it. Would you feel ok with someone doing that to you?

ditto. i think that they can make it look cute with the proper accessories to make it look more flattering.

well there is some time until your wedding so they might just grow it out until then...has your sister mentioned growing her hair out or does it seem like she'll keep cutting it short.

Then since there is 10 months to the wedding,, do what Heather said and show them ideas you have for hair for your self and see if they 'bite' on the idea of growing it out.

Re: too much to ask?
is your sis getting her hair done for the wedding? you could mention that the person who is doing yours does great hair extensions.... since it sounds like your sis has short hair because she thinks long is hard to manage. just make it sound like it's an option YOU are considering, that would also be available to her (not that you arent asking her to do it.) if she seems interested you can offer to pay for it.
growing your hair out for someone else's wedding is a bit much to ask. as for the flower girl, if she cut her own hair it will probably grow out a bit by the time of your wedding
I think extensions are the best option -- she doesn't have to suffer through what she considers unmanageable hair for months when she prefers her hair short. however, she can have more flexibility and have long hair on a temporary basis for your wedding. she might even prefer long hair if it meant she didnt have to grow it out or deal with it on a daily basis.

Re: too much to ask?
Are you close with your sister?? If it doesn't look nice on her, I would tell her when she says shes going to cut it, to try growing it out to see if she likes it better.. but no i wouldn't ask her to grow it out for your wedding, that to me, may come off a little rude.

I think she'll keep it short.
I feel so selfish -- like it's right up there with asking someone to lose weight for the wedding
Even my mom told me to tell her to grow it out! Maybe I can get my mom to casually ask her about it.

I think I'll start by sharing pics of hairstyles I like then when she says her hair isn't long enough, I can mention extensions. If not, we'll go with crystal hair jewelry...
Thanks!

Since your mom mentioned it to you, I think she could mention it to your sister b/c let's face it... Moms can say stuff like that without it being considered super rude. I would never ask someone to grow their hair out, cover a tattoo(that didn't contain profanity or nudes), or lose weight for my wedding. My sister in law asked me to dye my hair for her wedding and I did it, b/c I had no choice... my MOTHER made me do it. However... I've never really gotten over her asking me to do that. I always feel like I'm embarassing her but I didn't hold a grudge against my mom at all... you know what i mean?

i do think thats a little rude of you to ask that of them, just for your wedding... its their hair, and they should have it the length they want it, not just becasue of your wedding. its one thing if they had their hair dyed bright purple or something... but as far as length, i think you're better off not saying anything, and they'll find a nice way to wear it. my sister has a shorter pixie cut and was a BM in her friends wedding this summer... she look adorable! heres a pic- shes the one in the blue dress

I had to go to your albums to see why you had to dye your hair -- did the blue hair clash? :) I have a cousin who is completely goth and she freaks if anyone makes negative comments about it.

I don't think that's a great idea either...I think it may definitely offend them and that only adds drama to a wedding.

I think my hair was pink at the time actually. And it had been for over a year, it wasn't something I had just randomly done...so when she asked me to be in the bridal party she knew what color hair i had. I don't care if people make negative comments about my hair or my style in general... but in that specific instance... it just rubbed me the wrong way. My hair hadn't been blonde or a natural shade in over 4 years. I had to dye it specificially for her wedding, she did not offer to pay for it or anything... it was a major hassle.

Re: too much to ask?
I still think extensions might be the best of both worlds, provided that you pay for it.
If she keeps her hair short because she thinks long hair is hard to manage, she might be open to having long hair temporarily for one day where she won't have to style it and then can take it out the next day. She wouldn't have to grow her hair out for months. It would give her more options w/ respect to hair style.
However, if she says no then you can't force her.
