too much to ask?

Re: too much to ask?

Maybe you can brooch the topic by asking if they have any ideas for what to do with their hair for the wedding...maybe they're already thinking of extensions or will grow it out...before you ask them to grow it out, ask them what they have in mind first is my suggstion.

i really don't think there is any way on earth to ask them to do this and not insult them....if you want to do this - from the bottom of your heart....good luck......

Re: too much to ask?

I was in a similar situation, my FSIL cut her hair really short, but I wanted all of my bms to wear their hair down and for me to wear mines up (so that there's a contrast)...so I just let all of my BMs know in an email how I would like them to wear their hair, and she took the clue and started growing it out...I also asked them to let me know if they had any problems with my request and all of them were fine with it...you just have to make sure you're tactful...people that love you will understand that it's your wedding, and they'll do what they can to make you happy...as long as you're not bridezilla-ish about it, they'll comply..HTH

i wouldnt, you didnt ask them to be in your wedding party for how they look, you asked them to be in it bc of your relationships with them...it is not right of you to ask them to change their appearance when obviously they are ok with how they look

I dont think it would be right either. Maybe you can just casually mention how you miss their hair long and think it would look nice grown out (but dont mention the wedding when you say that) Maybe theyll decide to grow it out on their own.

I do not thinks its right to ask them to do that. If they do on their own that's ok but if not, I think it is what it is.

i agree with all the girls above me... its not really right to say that

HOWEVER if you do, i suggest they start taking grape seed extract to promote hair growth as well as hair, skin and nail vitamins to make the hair look healthy - i've been taking both for about 2 months now and have seen a BIG difference!!!

Re: too much to ask?

I think i would throw a fit if someone asked me to grow my hair for their wedding...it's their wedding for 1 day and my hair every day. If i liked it short I would find it very offensive that something asked me to grow it cause they wanted their bridesmaids to look the same.

One of my BM's told me she might cut her hair for locks of love before my wedding and she didn't ask permission she just told me and I think that is totally her right to do so.

Look, YOU are the bride, the star of the show, and not one person will care how short your BM's hair is. You're making excuses, saying that it's for their own good because their haircuts don't flatter them. if they honestly don't look good with the short hair, that's their problem, not yours. I often wear my hair short, and if a friend of mine told me that my hair looked bad and she wants me to grow it out for her wedding i would be terribly hurt and insulted.

my FMIL has very short hair and all I did was ask her how she was going to wear her hair and she asked me if she should grow it out....I told her she should do whatever she would feel comfortable with.....well she';s been growing it out for 6 months now.

Whoa, take it easy.
I am not making excuses -- it is obvious that I think their hair will not look so great in MY pictures for MY wedding. I think most of us on here care -- many are even treating their BM's to hair and make-up so that everyone looks their best that day. And the reason I put the question out there was because I wasn't sure if it was appropriate or not. Now I know that some people would be offended.
Either way I don't think my sister who loves me would take it as hard as you would.

I agree with you if you would prefer them to wear their hair a certain way for ONE day, I don't think it would be unreasonable at all for you to ask for that in a polite way...tell them you want a certain look for your pictures...In fact, I think it would be unreasonable of them to be offended by such a simple request...I'm going to be a bm next september and I am complying to a similar request without any hard feelings..but then again, this is just my opinion....

Re: too much to ask?

If you are asking your BM to wear their hair all up, or all down I think that it is totally fine. I was just in a wedding where the bride didn't want any hair in our faces so we all complied. I think the issue here is someone asking them to GROW their hair long for it. Not wear it a certain way. If i liked my hair straight and the bride said make it curly for my wedding fine, but if i liked my hair short and someone told me to wear it long I would have to say it's non of your business. I just don't get it. But this is just my opinion

I could understand that...that's why I don't think she should ask her bm to grow her hair out either, but she should ask her to wear it a certain way (like down or in an updo), and i'm sure she would take the hint that she would need to grow her hair out in order to wear it that way...
