Too Picky!

Ok so I am having major issues with deciding on a venue! I honestly don't even know what I want anymore at this point! I expect to feel 'wowed' when walking into a venue and know immediately that it's the one! I just haven't felt like that!

I know that my fiancé and I want a venue that doesn't look that outdated, has a decent sized dance floor, amazing service and food and a price that isn't going to break the bank!!

Am I being too picky?? Should I have some more patience and giive it some more time before just settling on a venue? I just don't want to wait too long to decide (we are hoping for summer 2015)! Meh!!

who knew immediately as soon as you walked in?? Did anyone book without absolutely loving the venue but still had an amazing time?

Thanks for all your help!!

You're not being picky at all. You know what it is you're looking for and there is nothing wrong with that. When my FH and I got engaged his best friend and one of my girlfriends gave us a magazine that had a list of venues in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, westchester, Connecticut and Long Island. We first new we wanted a small wedding and we wanted to get married in the winter. Something different. We then narrowed the area and looked online of pictures of the venues during the time of year of when we would like to get married which resulted on us picking Fox Hollow-the Winter Garden Pavillion room. It had the warm, intimate and cozy feeling we were looking for and the hotel on site was a no brainier for us. Since you are looking for a venue with a big dance floor and not outdated have you tried the Sommerly at Fox Hollow? It has just been renovated and you can have an outside cocktail hour (weather permitting of course) plus it has a very big dance floor. Have you looked online to see their gallery of pictures. Maybe set an appointment and see for yourself as well as dates of availability and cost. It's worth a shot. My FH was the one that chose our venue. I was always a guest at a wedding, he was always part of the wedding party. I went along with his decision as he knew what to look for as well as the accommodations being offered to our guest. Not sure if this advice helped any but it helped us on making our decision. Trust me, it will all fall into place. Keep us posted. Congratulations and have fun wedding planning. :)

We went to 8 venues before we decided on Jericho Terrace. It had everything we were looking for was in budget and the food was amazing. we knew it was the one but saw 3 other venues to be sure. we eventually booked with them. however time is of the essence if you would like to get married next year we had to move our wedding back a week and was not able to get the original room we wanted for the ceremony. if we have waited any longer we would have had to push it back or forward 2 months.

Too Picky!

I'm sure this is going to sound lovely, but to be honest, the price is what sold us. In the beginning we used the venue guide on this website and through some other wedding websites. We focused on the price, location (Nassau or western Suffolk), hotel accommodations, and outdoor space because we realized these items were the most important to us. We wanted a summer night wedding. We wanted a property that had a hotel for our guests. We wanted to be able to have an after party. We didn't want it to be too far.

Once we figured out our 'must haves,' we visited venues and picked the one that checked the most boxes. I've been to my venue before for other events so I knew what it looked like. I honestly didn't think we could afford it and when we found out we could, we were sold.

I would continue to look up reviews of each place both on here and the better business bureau. I would compare specifics, such as times, how much you have to guarantee, cocktail hour, dinner items...etc. Who can give you the most for your money? Because the fact is many of these venues are gorgeous, and you will have a great time at whatever venue you choose. Hope this was helpful.

Too Picky!

We visited 10 venues and were between two so went back and visited both a second time with our parents which really helped so much, because we were able to see little things we didn't like in the other venue and little things we loved that we didn't see the first time at our venue.

We did compromise on a lot to have our venue though... we wanted to guarantee 150, but they made us do 175 for our room (but they made it easier to swallow but throwing in a few add-ons), we wanted one wedding at a time, but the way the set-up is there, it feels like it and I have no fear of seeing another bride. We also wanted a Saturday in the fall and settled for a Friday in August to cut on cost. We did a lot of settling on our 'must haves' to have the perfect venue for us. But Fox Hollow pretty much checked every other box we had on that list, especially no carpet in the reception room. that was a big one for me lol

Lol I walked into the venue of my dreams first because I thougjt I couldn't afford it so I thought what da heck just go see it. Then I walked into another popular venue and while it was lovely I didn't love the several events nor did I love the banquet manager lol.

I say keep looking not sure what's ur budget but take a look at Sand Castle. The outside leaves a lot to be desired but I'm having a February wedding so I didn't care about the outside. There's so many amenities that come w sand castle that would cost u at least 15-20 pp extra at other halls. The dance floor is huge. Go take a look but be sure to speak to Mohamed he is simply the best banquet manager I've encountered and he has a lot to do w why I booked.

It took us 8 venues until we found one that we could really picture ourselves getting married in (We are still looking at 1 more tomorrow and will make a decision after that)! Consider the Atlantis aquarium in Riverhead....it's basically 2 venues in one, and the brand new Sea Star Ballroom sounds like what you're looking for (not outdated, large dining room with big dance floor, and affordable). Keep looking until you find the one We even found that the more we looked, the better prices we were quoted!

We had a very similar wish list and went to captain bills first and both loved it but I didn't feel right commiting without looking at others. I found myself comparing everywhere we went to captain bills and we decided to stop kidding ourselves and just book it!

Too Picky!

I didn't go to a single venue. I entrusted my parents, FH parents, and my MOH to look at venues for us since we live out of state. I was between two venues based off of the pictures and talking to the venues over the phone. When everyone walked into the winter garden room at fox hollow, they were all wowed. I wanted exposed stone or brick, wood ceiling, not the classic banquet hall feel. I was promised that there was effort that goes into it so I will not see the other bride if there is one. With the amount of food they offered and everything, I was worried about it being too expensive but after we finalized our budget, Fox Hollow fit. :)

We went to about 12 places and then when we walked into Floral Terrace's ballroom and spoke to the manager, we fell in love.
