Ok, so is it too soon to dress shop....or maybe should I say,how long do I have till I should dress shop? I figure like January of 08 I can shop for my dress since im getting married in Nov of 08. I have so much weight im trying to lose and to go now would drive me nuts since sample dresses are sooooo tiny! very frustrating. What do you girls thing?

I started dress shopping but I don't plan on buying anything until september (it'll be a year before my wedding) but if I do find something I'm in love with I would get it, hasn't happened yet though. To answer your question, no it's not too early!

Mabye in the early summer I am going to go just to try on different cuts and styles for a gown so I have some idea of what styles look good and which ones look crapy. Some designers take up to 1 year for your dress to come so thats something to keep in mind. Styles will change so I dont reccomend getting something just yet for that reason. I know its like having ants in your pants though!!!!!!!!!! Isnt it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree on looking around and getting an idea of what you like and in June -July go for fittings. I've heard it can take upto 8 months to get your dress if its from a specific designer or has a lot of alterations.

I am getting married in march and i refuse to even walk into a shop until april. I think people rush into getting a dress and also if your a person who's weights flip flops i just rather wait.
I am noticing many brides who purchased a dress selling it on ebay or craig's list who now like something else.

I might sound crazy - - but I got mine already.....it was the first one I tried on.......went to differnt places....but kept going back to the very first one....I LOVE IT!!!! I don't think it will hurt to go out and try

I am trying to lose alot of weight too....My wedding is in Oct 08. I am thinking maybe ill look Oct 07. I think if I start looking now with not being happy with my body image, I will get really depressed and turned off from these beautiful dresses

i ordered my dress already! i've been shopping around since the summer. i cant even tell you how many dresses i tried on! i definitely knew it was the one when i put it on!!

i just started looking at dresses...even though my wedding is super far... i figured if i found something i loved id rather get it now instead of not finding anything better later...besides its fun to try on dresses

I think it's too early to buy because I feel that I might change my mind. I also worry about having the shop store the dress.
I don't plan on buying my dress yet, but I am trying them on to see what style looks best on me. Some dresses I love just don't look right on me. I think I tried on more than 50 already.
I found a dress that is beautiful, but it is out of my price range, so I am looking to track it down at sample sales.

I bought my dress last week and that is a huge thing I was worried about as I am also planning on losing a bunch of weight. I want to lose atleast 60lbs before my wedding in May 08. The woman at Davids told me that for every 40 lbs you lose its 1 dress size you go down. She said they can take dresses in usually about 2 dress sizes.
Just something to think about when looking at dresses!
Also dont be upset about the dress size you buy they all run extreamly SMALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are european sizes!!!

this is good to know, thanks! yeah and you are right about dress sizes! i am usually a really small size and i was surprized when i tried on a size 8 it almost fit! (it was a little big). i honestly dont care what the number says though. as long as it fits me in the end!

IMO, it's never too soon. I got my dress already and trust me I have weight that I want to loose. So I orderd the dress in a certain size, knowing that there would have to be major alterations, but I also made sure that the bridal salon put a cap on the price of my alterations so that it won't cost me an arm and a leg when I have to take in the dress.

I plan on not starting until the summer when the fall '07 lines are out. I hear a good time to really shop for gowns is black friday also because it's slow int he bridal shops. Which will work out perfectly if you are ready to order by then.
ETA: I mostly want to wait until the fall '07 lines are out for more choices. HTH.
