Took the kitten to the Vet

Took the kitten to the Vet

And it's a boy!! His name is Oliver (thanks to a fellow LIW gal who suggested that name) and he is 2 pounds and is a gray tabby. He came back negative for feline Leukemia and HIV and aside from fleas and worms, he is perfectly healthy! They started a deworming treatment and treated the fleas. I turned my apartment upside down last night cleaning it since they said that with the pill they gave him, 99% of the fleas would die in 20 minutes!

He also started his vaccinations and was such a mushpot last night. He was super cuddly and we fell asleep on the couch together! Ok, enough of that, just wanted to update you gals and thank you for a LOT of awesome names!!!

My little Oliver!

Well, the guy I got him from rescued him from the landord next door who was going to 'throw all the kittens in the dumpster'. But his cat had just had kittens, so he couldn't keep them all, so we adopted Oliver! So I guess he was rescued!

Re: Took the kitten to the Vet

where did you get him?

I have been seriously thinking of getting one since my sister got hers. I dont care if fh says no- he will learn to love the kitty, right??

Oh, and what was the name of the vet you took him to? I told my sister I would find out for her. She paid like $200 or more for shots at the vet

I called someone on Craigslist. And he rescued him from a mean landlord.

I go to Island Rescue in Bayshore. It is so cheap. The bill was $124 yesterday and that was for the examination, the worm pills, the flea pills, the flea topical medicine and the feline leukemia and AIDS test.

The phone number is 631.968.8700

Re: Took the kitten to the Vet

hey girls ..

for everyone who is thinking about getting a kitten ... think about this (since a few of you asked about vet bills)

we got our kitten (layla) last may so its been about 15 months. Between all of the shots, deworming which they all pretty much get, 2-3 round of shots - like distempor etc... and also a 2 day hospital stay that she had after an infection when she was spayed (also add in spay/neuter) I would say we've spend about 2k!! It isnt cheap (to care for ANY animal) but it is deff. worth it. I would also say we spend about 30 per week in food, litter etc.

I know everyone is tight with money since we are all planning weddings ,,, and i know a couple from work who adopted a cat, then had to get rid of it within 3 months b/c they 'couldnt afford it.' There have even been posts on here of people getting rid of cats/dogs because they cant afford it. Adopt every little kitten you can, just make sure you can afford it - LONG TERM

ok, now on a happier note ... how can I convince FG to adopt another

haha- I cant even get FH to let me have ONE. I just said to him (to test him) 'oh- someone is coming to drop of a new kitty tonight' and he was like 'NO- why- we dont have $' LOL So I guess I failed the 'can I get a kitty test'

I would never get rid of it if I got one, but he is concerned with the $. Although we CAN afford it, he is a stickler w/ $. And he is a dog person.

Awww little beba!

they gave him a pill for fleas? My big cat and my one kitten have none (I use a flea comb) but every few days I find one on my long haired kitten! What pill is this?!?! She needs it, the little fleabag!

well good luck, maybe he will cave, FH wasnt thrilled about the idea and first and now he melts when we sees her or she lays with him, rubs up against him etc. she is a total daddy's girl and its adorable ... so cute to hear him talking to her from the other room 'i love you mushy' which is what he calls her
