Took the kitten to the Vet

Original post by yelley77

And it's a boy!! His name is Oliver (thanks to a fellow LIW gal who suggested that name) and he is 2 pounds and is a gray tabby. He came back negative for feline Leukemia and HIV and aside from fleas and worms, he is perfectly healthy! They started a deworming treatment and treated the fleas. I turned my apartment upside down last night cleaning it since they said that with the pill they gave him, 99% of the fleas would die in 20 minutes!

He also started his vaccinations and was such a mushpot last night. He was super cuddly and we fell asleep on the couch together! Ok, enough of that, just wanted to update you gals and thank you for a LOT of awesome names!!!

My little Oliver!

hey girls ..

for everyone who is thinking about getting a kitten ... think about this (since a few of you asked about vet bills)

we got our kitten (layla) last may so its been about 15 months. Between all of the shots, deworming which they all pretty much get, 2-3 round of shots - like distempor etc... and also a 2 day hospital stay that she had after an infection when she was spayed (also add in spay/neuter) I would say we've spend about 2k!! It isnt cheap (to care for ANY animal) but it is deff. worth it. I would also say we spend about 30 per week in food, litter etc.

I know everyone is tight with money since we are all planning weddings ,,, and i know a couple from work who adopted a cat, then had to get rid of it within 3 months b/c they 'couldnt afford it.' There have even been posts on here of people getting rid of cats/dogs because they cant afford it. Adopt every little kitten you can, just make sure you can afford it - LONG TERM

ok, now on a happier note ... how can I convince FG to adopt another

I adopted my first cat, Mima (Mimacat) from Islip Animal hospital back in October. She was $30 and already spayed, what a bargain!!! Not really. They told me she had a hairball when I got her. I took her anyway b/c she was so adorable and lovable. Turns out the reason she was so lovey was that she was near death! I had her a week, her cough (not hairball!!) got progressively worse until she finally had an asthmatic crisis!! She couldnt breath; my vet had to put her out; I had to rush her to the animal emergency room where she had to be on oxygen for 24 hours! She'll be on asthma medication for the rest of her life! Well over $3000 later, shes sleepign right next to me. Everyone thinks I'm a nut for spending that kind of money on a kitten I had for a week, but she's my baby bean!
