Top Layer of Wedding Cake w/ poll
I've heard that couples usually save that top layer of their wedding cake, freeze it, and then eat on their 1 year anniversary. How many of you are planning on doing this? I think it seems like a nice tradition (FH is totally grossed out about eating a year old cake.lol).I'm not sure how we'd do this though, considering that we'll be driving back to Colorado after everything. There's no way it's going to stay frozen within that 3 or 4 day trip. So I'll probably need to keep it at my parents house in THEIR freezer. Who knows when we'll be back to get it

i REALLY wanna do this too!! Like I said before though, i have no idea how to do it. I feel like the cake will get stale just from the drive out there. But who knows when we'll be back in New York. We're hoping to within the year, but who knows really. That'll make me sad to not be able to eat it on the Year mark
eh, maybe if we're not moved out here, we'll at least come visit for Christmas. Either way - i like the tradition. I think it's fun.

to prevent as much freezer burn as possible, place in your freezer for an hour to 2 to freeze up the icing, then wrap it in plastic wrap as tight as possible (air causes freezer burn) and then wrap it in aluminum foil....you can also then place it in a tupperware if you want (makes it easier for storage that it has a flat top and bottom.
Your cake will taste old after a year, but it will have much less freezer burn!

ahahahaha. That's true!!! Maybe we WILL do that then. Like what Mrs B to Be said - just put it in a cooler for a couple days and then wrap it real good when we get home.
My cake though has a different flavor & filling inside the top layer (different than the rest of the cake, i mean). So maybe I wanna taste a little bit BEFORE it gets stale & nasty and then save the rest

thats what our top layer is. Cakes by jay's carrot cake. I wonder if a cake like carrot cake can hold up better than other flavors
