maybe they still plan on giving at the wedding but decided to send something now. Maybe since they cant attend your shower they send this now just to get that out of the way and then give at the wedding. Not sure

I think you should be happy with any gift you receive.

I understand your frustration....but only if this family is a family of 'means.' If they are not, then you have to be understanding, you chose to have the wedding and invite them, it shouldnt be with the expectation of a present. The idea of 'making back the reception cost' is beyond my understanding.

Some people cant afford it. Now if these are people who have $$, then they are just cheap, or maybe they are still bring $ to the reception.

I also agree with the above posts, you should be happy they are giving you something...

You think that is bad. how about the guest I had that gave a coaster set (lovely yes) as the wedding gift. Not for the shower, the wedding. & mind you she ate her fill & came to the after party & enjoyed herself thoroughly & even wore a white dress (lucky it was a short dress if not I would have had her escorted out).. & she had money enough to go partying afterwards, I think she was just trying to be difficult on purpose.

I can laugh now.. sorta. Ugh

Don't quote either please.

Re: please dont quote...

ya it is frustrating, but take it from someone who has all her family from not NY- those are pretty generous. They might not know better. I have found that people out of NY tend to spend $30-$100 on wedding gifts.

If you think that pisses you off. try this too. People that say they are coming with a date, make you add their date, THEN END UP SHOWING UP WITHOUT THAT DARN DATE or not showing up at all. So now you are out the money you spent on that spot. Ugh some people that are not from NY just don't understand this is not a buffet dinner. I paid for your spot because you said you would be there.

Guez I am venting too sorry

Re: ,

My best friend's husband is from Michigan and so were his 3 GMs... well, none of them gave a gift! I don't know if it's just a non-NY thing, or if they thought flying in for the wedding was their gift. I think people from different areas just do things differently. In my case, some guests' generosity definitely made up for any not-so-generous! I agree that it's frustrating, but try not to let it bother you too much. Like some of the other girls said... any gift at all should be appreciated.
