Well it took FH & I almost 2 years to find our house. We looked for a while during the summer of 2007; then took a break during the winter and started looking again in the late winter/early spring 2008. We got lucky and found something we both loved and closed april 2008!

I think it's harder planning the wedding already have the house (financially) but i couldn't imagine combining both stresses of looking for/buying a house AND planning a wedding.

But i understand what you mean about wanting to have the house BEFORE the wedding. THis way you can go back to your own home as newlyweds...

It is SO hard to save when you have a mortgage. FH and I are still trying to get used to our crazy electricity bills for the house vs. apartment!

ITA! Its hard to save when you are paying a mortgage and house bills!

hahahahahahaha that has to be the funniest comment ever. well atleast to me it is. But i totally get your hispanic people are diff. Some of my moms fam think they can give an envelope with 50$ for 3 people. I mean i know its not suppose to be about $$$ but that your family is there for you. But i also dont want to loose ALL my money and not have anything left.

You should do what you really want. if buying your house is what you really want to do then go ahead!!! buy it (make sure you are ok paying your mortgage, car payments, utilities, becuase paying for a house is 100 times diff then living with your parents at home)

With a 50 person guestlist, i am sure you can have an inexpensive wedding. Unfortunately we have to sacrifice somethings. My sis has an awesome wedding with 110 guest at Riccardos. she spent 10,000 on it. and you have half the guest.

it was 47PP... you have 50 guest that would be 2,350.$$$

=(
This is what i am saying, Hispanic ppl are so different... each envelope IF anything will have $30 or We would get a toaster...
We do want a house... we want a house before the wedding too though...

It's not even just getting the money for a down payment that is the problem, the whole looking for a house you love and can afford takes a LONG time. At least it did for me and FH. We looked for our house for 6 months before we found it. It is definitely not easy.

I kind of wish we had gotten married first then used the wedding gift $ for the house. Is that an option for you?

Thats what we're planning on doing. We arent even living togther before we get married to save money

ditto same here on the living situation

Re: =(

just so you ladies know...

you only get back (IF YOUR LUCKY) the money you spent on the RH you never make back the money on anything else, like pictures, flowers, limos, hair and makeup everything else - you don't get back.

having a wedding is more about creating the memories for yourselves and getting money is like an added bonus.

also, getting money as a gift is a big city thing, go to the midwest and people give gifts, like things off of your bridal registry. giving money is unheard of!

Yeah chica. it is the same with hispanic ppl... they give u things they think u will need... and i am not worry about that i totally understand.
What i was trying to say is that I cannot wait for the wedding to help me pay the house bc it will not work...

Don't cry! This is the time when you are suppose to be happy and celebrate your engagement! This is a celebration of the love you and your FH share! I know how you feel. My FH wanted to get married in2012 because he thought we needed more time to save but I insisted on 2011 because I wanted to get married at 30 (silly right) but more importantly I wanted to save all our money this year for this big event so that after the wedding, we can focus on the bigger things like going back to school and paying for that and not trying to juggle school bills with a wedding.

If having a house is something you want to do now, then its ok to push ur wedding back or have a smaller wedding. As long as whatever decision you make is something you are happy with.

Also, living in an apt for a year or so isn't so bad. You will need to worry about rent, electricity and water bills and you can save more in an apt then in a house!

Good luck Chica!

Re: =(

I know i probably sound like a broken record but think outside the box-you can still get married at a church-maybe have the reception at the church's party area (i'm sure they have one)

**A friend who has a nice size backyard
**A Restaurant
**A university club or somewhere not so typical for a wedding.

You don't have to spend even a whole lot of money. LIke my future husband told me-stop watching platinum brides; rich bride poor bride whatever shows-that isn't always reality.

Do what is within your own means-don't try to spend more just to live up to a standard. Make your own.

Planning a wedding is going to be stressful; especially financiallly. But you have to move on from thought of an over the top wedding and do what you can afford.

My sister had a nice reception at a restaurant in Rockville center that had a hall to use and she had open bar for like $45pp (buffet) she probably spent around $5k for the whole thing!

It's possible-there are ways to have a wedding on a budget.

The fact that you have a smaller guest list is a huge plus!! That right there is savings!! Look at the positive things in your situation! You have an advantage having a smaller guest list-you can take advantage on some of the 'non traditional' places to have a reception! GOod Luck girl! Keep your chin up-don't cry!

Re: =(

You could do a wedding on like a sunday during the day for like 40-50 depending on the place. you should really just start looking around and getting a feel about how much the RH will cost. that's the most expensive part.
