So the topic of 'engaged' not being a marital status made me think of the last wedding I attended. I consider myself still 'single' becuase I'm not married. So when they called all the single ladies to the dance floor to catch the bo-k, I went up there. FH was in the bathroom and when he saw me out there, he got a little bent out of shape about it. He's like 'You're not single!' I had forgotten about the part with the garter and just wanted the bo-k for luck.
Are the engaged ladies not supposed to go? I thought it was luck for the next couple married?!

Re: Tossing the bo-k
Well, technically the tradition says that the girl who catches the bo-k is the next to get married. So I don't see what's wrong with catching (or trying to catch) the bo-k if you're engaged, but not yet married!

The girl who catches the bouquet is the next to get married, so technically all SINGLE girls should be up there, especially the engaged women. But because of the garter tradition some brides don't have engaged women go. I personally think you should go up until you are married.

Re: Tossing the bo-k
It's also my last shot at catching it because I'll be married at the next wedding (that's not mine of course)! I think I'll have to start crashing so I can make sure I catch at least one bouquet.
Maybe I'll have the married women come up and catch the bo-k at my wedding instead of the single ladies. Then her husband/date can have the garter and then it can be a cute old couple thing instead of some random guy touching one of my cousin's legs. My aunt's italian spark plug of a mother will probably dive for it.

Re: Tossing the bo-k
I still dont think engaged is a status BUT with the whole bo-k thing I think single meaning not married or committed to be married should go up. Since it does mean who catches is the next to get married and obvs if your engaged you are getting married! catch my drift? lol

Re: Tossing the bo-k
I don't think it's such a big deal (IMO) According to tradition , It's girl who catches the bouguet who will marry next. ( Look at it as us Girls who are already engaged are just one step ahead)The fact that we're engaged doesn't really disqualify us. I would assume the only exemption would be someone who's already married. Plus it's always fun

Re: Tossing the bo-k
I went to a friend's wedding (chrispar on the 08 boards) and when they announced the bo-k toss the DJ made me go up. He's also our DJ and he was like, 'I know you aren't married yet, Get up here!'. It was funny.

I say you are technically 'single' until you are married! The garter thing is all in good fun, unless the guy is seriously trying to cop a feel lol!

Re: Tossing the bo-k
Personally, I don't like the bo-k toss. BUT, FH always makes me get up anyway So, except for the garter part, I don't see any reason why your FH should get upset. As you said, it's supposed to be for good luck anyway.

Re: Tossing the bo-k
I think I am lucky enough to have found the right guy and lucky that he proposed and I am next in line to get married. Leave the luck to someone who needs it. Don't take away from someone else who can feel real special if she catches it.
I consider myself married already just waiting to sign papers.

Re: Tossing the bo-k
I went up to catch the bo-k at a wedding recently AND i caught it!!! So the groom pretty much threw the garter right at my FH and one of the groomsmen literally dived in and intercepted it. FH wanted to kill him. So now im not allowed to catch anymore bo-k's
but thats ok!! we only have one more wedding to go to before ours anyhow
