totally disappointed

totally disappointed

FH and I met with a photographer yesterday. We're getting married in November and having a church mass at 5p.m. It will be dark by the time I see FH so we won't have any pictures in daylight together. The photog suggested we either see each other before the ceremony (which I def. don't want to do), have the church at 1 and the reception at 7 (which would have a lot of wasted people and it's an inconvenience to them) or to go back to her the day after for shots of the two of us in daylight. My parents seem to think the dress will be a mess, our eyes will be all bloodshot and we'll want to relax the day after. Any suggestions.

I know this might be a strech but if you really don't want to see each other before the wedding or have to much time in between the church and RH what about doing a day after shoot with Angelica Glass or another photographer.

I know it's the same since it's not actually on your wedding day but Angelica Glass day after shoots that I've seen are amazing.

Good luck

Why not schedule another shoot even like a week after--so that you have some time to rest

Re: totally disappointed

I personally think the day after shot idea is really strange. (I could use a stronger word here but I am biting my tongue.) It can't be the same. The emotions aren't going to be there, your dress will be a mess, and you ARE going to want to relax. I wouldn't do it, but that's JMO. I know that the pictures will look great, and no one will know they were taken on another day, but YOU will know and to me, it's too weird.

I didn't want to take pics beforehand either, but we are. We are doing everything at the RH and they don't allow time between the ceremony and cocktail hour. Guests leave the ceremony and go right to the CH. We want to be at our CH. So, we are taking pics at 11 and then having the ceremony at 1. I'm not just going to walk up to FH standing with his fam and be like, ok picture time, though. We are going to make it special, like him walking up to me in the garden, or me walking into a room where he is, etc. I don't want it to be cheesy but I do want him to see me by myself for the first time. I want it to be special and we will make it that way.

I can understand how you are feeling. I didn't want to take the pics before at all, I totally wanted him to see me for the first time as I walked down the aisle. But timing doesn't allow it. I know it will be very special anyhow.

Good luck!

just so you know day after shoots are usually not litteraly the day after ... most people dont do them for at least a few weeks after if not longer ...

I met with a photography studio rep who told me that i should push my CH to 6:30 so as to have enough time to take photos before the main reception...i decided not to go with that photo studio.

I may be wrong on this, but it's my belief that if i'm the one plunking down a lot of $$, then the photographer better be good enough to take photos whenever and wherever possible.

I will be getting married next Nov and the sun will be setting at ~4:30pm, just when the ceremony should be ending (if it starts on time). I don't plan to have any outside shots, and that's fine with me. If you REALLY want outside shots, then you may have to play around with the times, but don't let the photographer bully you into anything you don't want to do...let him/her figure it out.

JMHO...

I am getting married the same day as you, in 2009 though. I had the same predicament, so after a lot of thought and discussion and STRESS...FH and I decided that we will do pictures before the ceremony. It is very non-traditional, but pictures are SO SO important to me. Plus, our ceremony is at 5:30, so we want pics right as the sun sets, at 4:45, it'll be gorgeous. I know its not ideal, but seriously, consider doing it before, you'll be so happy with your pictures. Plus, they make it special when he sees you for the first time, and its more personal.

Good Luck, and remember, no matter what you decide, its going to be the best day of your life and nothing is going to take away from that!

we are doing it before the ceremony and since our package inlues 2 photographers we are going to get a pic of each of us as we see eachother for the 1st time that day i think it will be really special.

i originally didnt want to see my FH either before the ceremony... but our photographer is setting up something with us so when we see each other for the first time before ... he will capture those moments.. it will be special in our own way!! and this way we can do all our pics before and go to our CH.

i feel your pain, my wedding is next week and I'm really sad that we wont get that many outdoor pics. My church is at 3 though and then my reception starts at 7. Is there any way you could have the church at 3? that way, you'll have some time after the ceremony for pics before and during the sunset, and the gap between the church and reception wont be too huge.

I would consider changing the time that way you get some day light. People will make it to your wed if they want to (no matter what time it is). I don't really like the idea of the day after pics (just not the same)

I agree completely. I had the same situation, with a photographer. FH and I do not want to see each other before hand for pics. They were telling us we HAD to. Needless to say, we crossed them off our list and have met with many more photographers, and they are all wiling to work with our schedule as best they can. I will still get outside shots, I just have to push the ceremony up about a half an hour. No biggie. It's YOUR day. Do it your way. Good Luck!

Re: totally disappointed

maybe im reading this wrong but it seems like the photographer is offering you choices on what you can do to get some daylight pics, not telling you what to do. it just so happens neither of the choices work with what you want. My suggestion would be to see each other before the ceremony. i dont think it will have a huge impact on the rest of your day and your photographer can capture that special moment between you two. and you will also be able to get your day shots. its a tough call. good luck.

Re: totally disappointed

in my opinion who cares about day or night shots. im sure your pics will be great and you wont even care later on in life.
that is not something to stress about.
do you really wanna get all dressed up a week after your wedding just so you can have pictures outside with the sun up??????

Re: totally disappointed

Does it matter to you that you won't have outside pictures?? Or was this photographer saying that you need day light?? Tons of weddings are shot at night- do what you want and if that vendor can't provide you with the services you want, then I would look elsewhere.

Re: totally disappointed

We thought about moving the church earlier... not quite as early as 1 but to 3. We're having a mass though so if it takes an hour and 15 minutes that gives us like 15 minutes left of sunglight. Not much, but we may move it to 3 anyway because the photog. said one hour between the church and CH is not enough time. I didn't think the whole sunlight thing was a big deal either but they explained flash shots aren't the most flattering pictures and it's hard to capture the Bride and Groom's personality posing by a mantle.. which I totally understand. I am being presented with options- they're just making sure I get what I want by telling me all this.
Like I said I'm just torn. I always pictured him seeing me when the doors to the church open and the music starts playing. cheesy!
