Re: TOTALLY NWR: but i need to know...

According to FH (since i had no clue either):

It's music - all that whiny, pop, punk stuff... It's singing about emotions...hence EMO...

Example: Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, Dashboard Confessional, all that type of stuff...

Sorry if that offends anyone!! That's just the way FH is telling me - so i'm typing it :) He's very into music...

Yeah - he said you can tell the minute a song starts - they all have that same tone and you can barely tell the different bands apart from each other...

Re: TOTALLY NWR: but i need to know...

emo is short for EMOtional.
as in over emotional.

the music is usually about breakups and heartache
the lead singer USED to have sound like a whiney 13 year old girl, but now that's not so important, the lyrics are.

the look is about tight pants, black hair, and eyeliner for both boys and girls.

emo is becoming 'hardcore' now... which leads us to emocore ... which is emo music, with harder beats, and combines the emo look with the goth/metal look

I used to right for the subculture section of a magazine and ezine.

I agree this is becoming very popular right now. It seems the big trend with this group is 'cutting', which is incredibly annoying to us therapists!!! If you are going to cut at least mean it, don't do it to fit in with a group! (In no means trying to offend anyone, just frustrated with all these little teenage emo's whose parents make them come to therapy as they are now cutting their wrists due to the social trend).

Re: TOTALLY NWR: but i need to know...

my opinion emo = whinny

Typically emo kids/people are on the verge of being goth but yet musically turn to more of a pop punk/core sound. As said earlier.

When i was leaving going to shows on on LI at all the pwac and knights of colum that was my main source of entertainment outside of the NYC death metal shows and my goth clubs - emo was comming in. Typically these kids were rejects of the scene because they liked goth/indus music but loved the heavy aspects of the Punk/Hardcore scene. They called it emo music because it was 'emotional' which never made sense to me since all music has emotion but it was never a over the top whine fest like emo music.

Personally I hate emo scene and all of what it stands for because i honestly grew out of the whole goth self loathe thing a long time ago and to see a ******* version of the scene that is far worse in my mind its more annoying.

cutting has been the 'in thing' with groups for decades. 10 years ago therapists were saying the same thing about Goth kids.

it might not be due to the social trend... perhaps they are involved with the depressing social trend b/c they are not happy. cutting is like a drug. you hang out with a bunch of potheads when you're depressed and there's a change you'll start smoking pot to feel better too... same goes for cutting, people tell you it helps... and you try it and cant stop.

i am not trying to argue with you, or anything like that, and i'm not offended really, i just don't want people who are unaware of what the emo scene is associating cutting with it so casually.

Re: TOTALLY NWR: but i need to know...

i was a cutter (totaly missed that post) i got over it after a few months it was over depression if anything else. When people crap on you constantly you find a outlet to take that away from hurting you inside. I find people who cut usually hate their exterior/body so they cut it. That is why i did it. Then realize i was dumb went to doing drugs for a bit then realized that was dumb became 18 and left my parents house thinking I knew better moved back after six months realizing i was a insignificant arrogant self absorbed idiot like any teenager and grew out of it IoI
