Hello, UK bride to be here! We are getting married in NY in July (just the two of us). We will be staying in NY for 6 days and then we thought we could hire a car and tour around for another 6 days picking up hotels as we go along.
Could you suggest places to visit that we could reach by car. Seashore/mountains maybe?

I think she means outside of NYC, but nearby.
You might want to drive the length of Long Island and go out to Montauk. It's beautiful out there--and you get a great mix of the beach and scenic drives. But, in July it will be high season and hotels will be expensive, if there are any reservations available at all. Girls on here can most likely recommend some hotels for you to call ahead.
the Catskill Mountains are north of NYC and are really beautiful as well (think Dirty Dancing!). I'm not sure how far of a drive it would be (I'm guessing between 3 and 4 hours)
