Trading Spaces fans

I saw a commercial that they are doing a show using 100,000 instead of 1,000 to spend. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Re: Trading Spaces fans

yes...but that means just more $$$ to spend on ugly black paint and MDF!!

Maybe Doug will be able to get more car parts, now that he has more $$ LMAO..remember that room that he did for the kid with the car front and back!! CAn we say safe???

Yes it is true! I saw that preview as well. It would be fine if they gave Vern $100,000 but giving that amount to Doug is criminal!

Re: Trading Spaces fans

That was the coolest bedroom that doug ever did...He put the back end of a chevy cavilier into a boys room and put the mattress in there.....pretty cool.

As long as the designers do not spend $100,000 on a All Flower Bathroom....Remember that one?? It was hideous.

I heard about the $100,000 trading spaces....Thats going to be crazy

I can't wait for this. It's going to be very cool. I mean, a kitchen can be re-done in granite for 50G's...I'm dying to see what they come up with!

I wonder if it's still going to be just one room, or if they do a whole house or something.

Aren't they doing a $1Million makeover soon too?

And yes, I wish they'd give VERN the money to go nuts! He's incredible!

Re: Trading Spaces fans

Hopefully they give Vern that money! I can't wait to see the episode, hopefully they do more then one room becaseu the house as a whole would look stupid with one 100,000 room.

They are using Doug and Laurie for the 100K show...no Vern.

Re: Trading Spaces fans

I like Vern, Geneveive, Laurie and Doug. Edward, Hildey and those other 2 need to GO! If I got them to do my house I would cancel the entire thing.

ugh I cant stand Laurie....Her voice is annoying as anything

Re: Trading Spaces fans

Can you IMAGINE what fabrics Laurie is going to come up with, with a budget of $100k??? I mean, with a budget of $1k - they're amazing...I cannot wait to see what she does.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing what Doug can do with a larger budget - I don't always love his designs...but they have definetly evolved (for the better, imo) since the show first started.

Re: Trading Spaces fans

I think that show is going to be on Oct. 4th. Supposedly the homeowners didn't know they were choosen to get the $50,000 rooms until they switched keys! This should be interesting.

Re: Trading Spaces fans

I agree, Doug does seem to be toning down a bit. He is so hit and miss, some are great and others are just awful. I am so glad Hildy is not getting that money. Could you imagine 100k worth of plastic flowers, hay and moss

I saw the 2 carpenters in the commercial. I guess each will have their own carpenter?

Found article on the show

They can't show off for another two months, but James and Tina Drakakis say the makeover of their Ellisville home for television's Trading Spaces is grander than a grand.

The couple and their Barnfield Drive neighbors, John and Barbi Joyce, struck it $100,000 rich last week when the popular home makeover show decided to use their homes for their two-hour fall special.

In recognition of the show's standing as the top rated offering in the Discovery Channel's stable of programs, producers decided to up the budget that neighboring contestants can spend to redecorate each other's houses from $1,000 to $100,000 for the special.

That meant $50,000 to completely remake the Drakakis kitchen and another $50,000 for the Joyce family room.

Drakakis said Tuesday that he and the Joyces are obligated to keep the makeovers under wraps until the Oct. 5 airing of the two-hour special on The Learning Channel. But Drakakis said he can confirm that each home turned out magnificently.

The $50,000 budgets gave designers Doug Wilson and Laurie Hickson-Smith the opportunity to showcase their talents and both shined, said Drakakis.

Under Wilson's guidance, the Joyces remade their friends' kitchen, replacing just about everything - from cabinets to appliances - with hip metropolitan flair. The Drakakises followed Hickson-Smith's more contemporary classic style in reworking the Joyces' family room, bringing in new furniture and a state-of-the-art surround sound system that included a flat screen television. Drakakis said neither designer strayed far from the original look of either home, but still managed to infuse their signature styles.

Drakakis said the designers learned that they'd be doing something beyond the normal makeover about six weeks ago and have spent the last month and a half shopping for fabric and furniture to complete the makeovers. The contestants only learned of their bounty on Wednesday morning, when filming began in the Joyces' driveway. 'We were floored,' Drakakis said.

To keep the secret under wraps, the show's producers resorted to outright deception.

Although two producers as well as the show's publicity director told the Old Colony Memorial that they had an exclusive agreement with the Boston Globe to cover the filming, Drakakis said the Boston newspaper actually had no access to the filming. Rather, he said, a network morning show filmed the entire process and will be featuring it in segments just before Trading Spaces $100 Grand airs in October.

The $100,000 prize apparently will not be the biggest bonus for contestants on the show this year. According to TV Guide, the show also plans to air a series in the spring that will pit couples against each other for a $1 million home. Drakakis said the show's producers have yet to flesh out details of the series. In recognition of the show's popularity, Trading Spaces will be adding 20 new shows this season. Instead of the 40 makeovers the show has completed in the last few years, the show will film 60 segments for the coming season, Drakakis said.
