Tradition of saving the wedding cake...

So after subjecting ourselves to eating our year old wedding cake last night, I wanted to know why I was doing it. So I googled it....The tradition of saving a piece of wedding cake is an old one, that some couples still hold to today. The custom is said to have originated with the concept that it was a sign of wealth for a couple to freeze the top portion of their wedding cake, thaw it out and eat it on their first anniversary.
Funny, I don't feel any wealthier

Well all I can say is we tried it, the cake itself was kind of stale, the cannoli and strawberry filling were ok, I was nervous to eat the whipped cream icing, so I didn't.

RIP sweet wedding cake

Aww, happy anniversary!

We wound up not saving it. I guess we will be poor forever then...

We had no room for it anywhere.

Happy Anniversary! We get to take ours out on SUNDAY! DH is more excited about more room in the freezer than anything else.

Happy Anniversary!!! DH & I decided to only save 2 pieces of the cake to eat on our 1 year anniversary. We ate the rest of it before the HM as I didn't taste it the night of the wedding bc I was sick!

I want to get a replica though too just in case it doesn't taste so hot!

This is what we did, so it does not take up too much room in our freezer.

Happy Anniversary

Thanks ladies
The year really flew by quickly, I still can't believe it. In one way it seems like yesterday and in another way it seems like it was forever ago.

We did this too...We ended up saving a piece for our 1 year annioversary and eating the rest of it the day after with my family...I only was able to have one bite at the wedding...I wasn't waiting a year to have another

Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for doing the research, I guess you're supposed to be wealthier since this year you're not shelling out $$$ for a wedding!!

Can't wait to eat ours, 4 more months!!!

It's nice that you were able to save yours. We attempted to do this..but my mother and brother got to the cake the night of our wedding. They said they didn't know it was supposed to be saved..and the cake was so good they couldn't help themselves... We just decided to get another cake made for our anniversary.

Happy Anniversary!!
