traditional vs/ photjournalism (yes- ANOTHER photgrapher question)

I have almost made my photgrapher decsion. I really like photjournalistic style.
But if I don't add a traditional photographer, what will I be missing?

Just the lined up shots of out BP & Parents.
or would we even skip the whole going to a park or someplace like that. Would they take candid shots there if we just had a Photojournalist, or would they meet just meet us at the reception.

I'm afraid if I have 2 photographers they will just be in the way at the reception.

What does the traditional one do at the reception?

I LOVED the photojournalistic. I'm a sucker for the most expensive stuff though

My photographer(s) do(es) both. I am having a traditional photographer for 3 hours to take my formals, ceremony etc. I am having a photojournalist photographer all day. Great price too...

I am using Franklin Square Photographers. They shoot in both styles and you get 2 photographers. They have a great website. fsphoto.com

please explain exactly what the difference is. I'm think I'm clear on it but I want to be sure. Photojournalisic is more 'candid' like, and the traditional is more like the posed and planned ones, right?

We are having both - abotu 80% photojournalist/ 20% traditional

wow- you all post fast.
I accidently posted before I wrote my message, so I went back to edit and I still got responses from just the topic!
You guys are great.

I was thinking of asking if the traditional could just be there for part of the day.

Any other opinions, now that I finished the post?

we are going to have one photographer - he will be using digital camera and do both the traditional and photojournalistic pictures.

me too .. the great thing about digital photography is that there are not extra costs for switching pictures to color or black and white. i think it is better to have 1 or 2 photographer that shoot both ways than 2 different photographers from different companies who are not really working together and will probably take a lot of the same shots.

This would be 2 from the same company. They do this alot, so I think they know what they are doing, but I'll ask specifics when I call tomorrow.

Go with a photographer that can handle both. You won't have to worry about 2 people being in the way and you'll save money. There are plenty of talented photgraphers out there who can take all the kinds of shots you want--traditional, candids, photojournalistic! Maybe if you feel this one person can't do it you should keep looking.

Yes, my sugestion is to go with a photographer that does both. I'm using Steve from Patken and he does both. He also takes a lot of proofs so you will have many pics of each style to choose from. Good luck in your decision.

any photographer should take whatever photos you want....if you want some traditional shots, ask the PJ if he's willing to get those few shots....otherwise he'll get the family shots....but they won't be posed....does that make sense?? He might get you and your maid of honor hugging or kissing on the cheek, but it won't be a posed, front on view. Make a list of 'Must take photos' and hand them over...or get a photographer that has 2 taking photos.

Re: traditional vs/ photjournalism (yes- ANOTHER photgrapher question)

my experience has been a photojournalist can take posed shots but it doesn't necessarily work the other way around...

i'm doing like 99.9% photojournalistic and .1% posed. i have yet to figure out the breakdown of BW to color. actually, think I may just shoot all in color, scan the negatives to digital format and create BW of those I want. i will not have professional digital shots (after weighing the pros and cons, i decided not to).

if going digital make sure you find out what format (RAW, JPG), resolution (72 dpi, 100 dpi, 300 dpi, 3-10 mega pixel), and size (1800 x 2400) your copies will be. i wouldn't take anything less than 300 dpi that would enable me to make a crisp 8x10.

also review styles of photos and ask what type of film and speed was used. there are certain 'romantic' and 'blurry' shots i can't stand, my photographer explained what was used to achieve that look and will steer clear from it.

hope this helps

we did a 100% photojournalistic photographer and I could not have been happier....
I am just not a 'posed picture' kind of girl....(even on my wedding day)!!!

I wouldn't change a thing.....

I think it depends on the size of your wedding, how many guests, If you have a large wedding one photographer may not be able to shoot as much because he will be dividing his time trying to catch those photojournalistic moments, of course traditional pictures will be during the ceremony, bridal party, some family shots, cake cutting, but you should detail exactly what traditional shots you want when you chose the photographer
