Train etiquette- nailpolish?

Original post by MrsTC

On the train this AM, I was sitting in a 3 seater (NJ Transit). A man was sitting by the window and I was at the end. A RUDE woman asks me to get up, which I politely did so she could squeeze into the middle, no thank you or anything . Then she takes out nailpolish and starts painting her nails - and it stunk! I mean, I don't mind that when I am in my house with a window open - but on a crowded train at 8am! The man and I both gave her dirty looks but I kept my mouth shut, i wasn't in the mood

Last week on the subway apparently someone did the same & the train conductor got over the PA & said will the lady that just took out the nail polish please put it away b/c the acetone is making her nauseous and you wouldn't want a passed out train conductor.

That I could handle - maybe.

My favorite are the people who decide that the train is a good place to cut their fingernails.

I have sat next to people clipping their nails too. And had them brush away the clippings and hit somebody eewwww.

Glamour magazine did an experiment to see how some people will do anything in public and it also showed others can be oblivious. They showed a girl with a cordless curling iron, one with makeup and one with an electric razor all on the LIRR and how no one flinched when they practiced their personal hygiene.
