Re: Training at PetSmart?
Yes, Bama just finished his first class last week at the PetSmart here in VA. He did great, and we thought the class was really good. I think it was called puppy headstart.

Re: Training at PetSmart?
Cool, we are bringing Casey on Dec 5 to the Basic training. She will be almost 5 mos. by then and she is big - so the trainer suggested Basic vs. Puppy training bc she is most likely going to scare the little puppies lol. (She is 30lbs already!) Just wanted to see if its worth the $100 bucks!

Re: Training at PetSmart?
Hee hee - i can relate. Bama is about 35 lbs and towered over the other puppies, but only because of his breed, not his age. The other puppies were a bichon, Boston terrier, beagle, and this teeny little hairy thing - don't know what it was!By the way, I bought this really great book which covers a lot of the things that PetSmart covers in the puppy class (and more). It's called 'Positive Perspectives: Love Your Dog, Train Your Dog' by Pat Miller.
Amazon.com has it.
Good luck!

someone at work recommended a book to me:The Art of Training a Puppy
by the New Skeet Monks
Apparently they are a group of monks who raise dogs to be service animals. He used and swears by it! I have to check it out.

OMG!!! Craig and I just bought this book on Wednesday and it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!! The Monks of New Skete have a monastery in Cambridge NY where they've breed, raised, and trained German Shepherds for over 20 years! The books uses the German Shepards as examples, but the info can be applied to any breed of dog. SO easy to follow and extremely informative! I stumbled upon this book in a Rottweiler message forum and decided to check it out - WOW what an huge difference it's made with our little Golem in just the two days we've had it! I was actually going to create a post about how impressed I was with this book to try and recommend it to others in puppy-traiing! This is probably the best $25 we've spent on Golem since we brought him home!!! I can't rave enough about The Art of Raising A Puppy, what a truly wonderful training book! Golem is really feisty and sometimes doesn't knwo when to stop when we tell him.... this book has really helped us so much with his behavior and he's almost like a different dog!! - Thank God for the Monks of New Skete! oohhh... pun!
hee hee!GREAT TRAINING BOOK!!!!
