training small dogs? Is it hard?

training small dogs? Is it hard?

I've only had large dogs and they were all house broken. (But, when my Dad was in the army, his first job was as an animal trainer, so our pets were always like military animals, LOL!)

My best friend has a pug that 's house broken. But, are small dogs hard to train?

My dog wasn't hard to train at all- she's a chihuahua.

However, because of her size (she's only 4 pounds) she cannot walk in snow and she really doesn't do well iin temperatures under 30 degrees.

So she goes on pads in the house.

With that said she ONLY goes on pads- NEVER has accidents.

Chewie was trained in a month or so. He goes outside if we walk him or inside on the pads if we don't walk him. He's trained to do both.

I get jackets & sweaters for my small dogs, and they walk outside almost all of the time. Not all small dogs can do this, so it is a good idea to read about the bred first.

The longest it ever took me to train my dog was 2 1/2 weeks, and it was the same for both my small & large dogs. The thing is, you have to know about the breed to know what their needs are.

HI !! I just got Bella, my Puggle 2 weeks ago tonight, and she goes running to the wee wee pads!!!! It's actually really cute, b/c the pads slide out from under her feet and then she's half off/ on and she misses a little!!! But, she's doing great, for only being here for 2 weeks. But it's weird b/c I have only had big dogs too...... But we did it!! She's practicaly trained!!!

We have a Jack Russell Terror, I mean Terrier mix.

She was so easy to train! I too only had large dogs before her, a Pointer, a Dalmation, a Lab.... My dad always trained them so I dont know if Lucy has been easier but it took almost now work. They say dont reprimand if you dont catch them in the act, but if I came home to a mess she would get yelled at! Within 2 weeks she was trained! She was 11 weeks old when we got her! We have had her 6 weeks and she has had maybe 8 accidents in the house and none in the last month! She also goes 8-10 hours at home alone during the day, will almost full run of the house and she holds it! I am really proud of how well she did with house breaking!
