all of my guests are scattered across the tri-state area. it's a small affair of 100 ppl. i'm not sure what is the protocol on providing transportation. as me and FH figured there's is no one place we can set for the bus to leave from. FH also says that most don't provide transportation at all and it's fine. so what to do?

Re: Transportation Question
Where are you trying to provide transportation to/from? Are people staying in hotels the night of your wedding?

Re: Transportation Question
no they all live at a driving distance for all of my guests. not a very short drive, but still not that far either. i guess the furthest would be an 1hr and a half drive. so the transportation, if there's gonna be one, would be to and from the RH

Re: Transportation Question
I never heard of anyone providing transportation to all their guests everywhere. Most people who are invited to a wedding are scattered all over the tri state area. Why do you feel you have to provide transportation to everyone? Its their responsibility to figure out how they are getting to your wedding. The only people you get a limo for is you guys and the bridal party so I wouldnt worry about it.

Re: Transportation Question
my cousin asked me expectantly, and she got married in May, so she knows obviously more than me. and i guess it's a Russian thing, all of the wedding usually have transportation provided

Re: Transportation Question
I didn't provide additional transportation for my guests beyond the shuttle that the hotel provided between the hotel and the RH. Everyone found their own way to the church or RH. I wouldn't worry about it - it's an added expense that is unnecessary and I doubt that anyone would expect it.

Re: Transportation Question
I think that is crazy that you are supposed to provide guest with transportation. I understand your BP, but entire guest list seems so unrealistic to me.

I agree! If you have a hotel blocked for guests I would only provide a shuttle from the hotel to the RH and back. And also for your BP.

Re: Transportation Question
What did your cousin do? I think its a very generous gesture for a couple to do this. My friend paid for a bus to pick-up and drop-off guests from two different bars in different neighborhoods... again, very generous. So guests drove their cars to either location and parked. That was great since they now didn't have to drink and drive home. After the wedding, the bus dropped them off at their pick-up location...and the group piled into the bar and continued the party. Of course they also had the option to sober up a bit and drive or take a cab home and return for the car the next day.

Re: Transportation Question
I've never heard of providing transportation for guests, only for BP and parents. I will be blocking off hotel rooms and probably arranging a shuttle to/from hotel & RH, but that's it. If people don't use the hotel rooms, they need their own transportation. I'm expecting 200+ people, so there's no way I can provide transportation for everyone.

Re: Transportation Question
thanks guys, I was afraid that by not providing transportation I'm going against some kind of wedding etiquette.
my cousin provided 2 buses that left from BK. but most guests were from BK, where is my guests are all scattered all over the area. also, i don't think we can afford this expanse on top of everything else. i would love to do it for my guests but I don't see how its logistically possible.

Re: Transportation Question
we're not having a BP, so the only transportation we will need is for me and my FH. also, nobody is going to stay at a hotel, unless the guests from other countries will come, in that case we will work with the hotels that our RH is working with and which do provide a shuttle. what would be the best way to explain this situation to guests that do expect transportation? what do I say?

Re: Transportation Question
I understand what you mean. I am originally from The Bronx and most of my mom friends lives there are all over 70s. One of my aunt who is 77 lives in Harlem. I was thinking of having two vans to keep the cost down for them. Plus I didn't want 20 Access-a-Rides at the RH.

I'm not having a BP either and for those who are staying at hotel are using the hotel shuttle too. So the only transporation I am doing is for family who is over 70s and handicapped.

Re: Transportation Question
no that is not done here, i mean some ok but not ALL your guests. It would also be a bit hectic to pick up everybody if they are scattered. I had guests from Queens, LI, manhattan, jersey, bk and SI. To pick everyone up wouldve taken forever and i had 275 guests. Not only that but personally i would NOT want that. I mean its a nice gesture if someone did this but i would tell them no thanks. I would have to leave a wedding when the bus was leaving and not when i wanted to. Plus personally i'd prefer to drive myself rather than be on a bus with a bunch of ppl lol
I know what you're talking about though, its tradition in some cultures but not done here, its done overseas. When we went overseas for my aunts wedding we did this, and transportation was provided for the guests. But ALL the guests were at the ceremony and left from there.
Ive never seen anyone here provide transportation for ALL their guests.

Re: Transportation Question
i arranged transport for my friends. I had them meet at one location for pick up and they were dropped off there. My friends dont drive and my wedding was really far and it would have been a hassle for them to take the train to it. They all split the cost.

Re: Transportation Question
We have quite a few friends and relatives that don't drive (Manhattanites!) and having them take the LIRR in the morning on the weekend then taxi to the RH will probably cause quite a few people to be late.
To be more efficient, we plan on renting a 40 seat shuttle bus to take them from lower manhattan to RH (Land's End) and then bring them back afterwards..
I hope it won't be too expensive because I haven't gotten a price quote yet.
