My dress is expected in at the end of the month ( )...only issue is that it's in Florida and it needs to be in NY lol. I knew when I ordered it I'd be facing an issue of getting it to NY....but now I need to have a gameplan!!
I can take a chance and have the shop UPS it to my parents in NY. I can drive it to NY but I will need to have fittings earlier then I normally would because I can only drive up there during August. Someone also told me I could buy a seat for it on a plane...I would need to check on this and I would feel a little ridiculous lol.
What should I do????
TIA

Re: Transporting My Dress Poll
I really think shipping the dress would be fine. Stores do it all the time. Just make sure it's insured and you get a tracking number, and that a signature is required

agreed. and just do it with plenty of time just in case it gets delayed for some reason

Ship it as soon as you get it. This way, you have a lot of time if god forbid it gets lost. You can reorder the same one and then sue the pants off of whatever shipping service you use!

I had a similar issue. My dress was in FL, I was in NY. My mother and grandmother shipped it via UPS and it was fine

Re: Transporting My Dress Poll
They sent my dress up in August I think. But we had ordered it in Dec of 07, it came in April of 08 and was sitting in FL, so they wanted to get it up to me for fittings.
I would say about 2-3 months before is fine if thats when you want to start fittings. With UPS get it insured and you can track it, so we were able to know what day it was coming. Also we got signature confirmation of delivery required, so it wasnt left on a doorstep somewhere

I would definitely drive it if you could, if not shipping using every precaution possible, signature required, tracking number, etc.

i agree. even if you want to take it on the plane with you i don't think you will have to buy it a seat that sounds like a little much to me. maybe you could have the bridal shop pack it in a a box/bag nicely and take it as your carry on? call the airline and see what they say!

I would not ship it! I would either drive it or check it with the airline.

Re: Transporting My Dress Poll
My friend took her dress with her to Puerto Rico where she got married - they were able to hang it in the first class closet. I would either do that or drive it up.

Re: Transporting My Dress Poll
can you get alterations here maybe, obviously not at the bridal salon? then you could drive it up or you could still have it shipped but directly from designer as if it were going to the bridal salon for the first time. i know im giving this advice but personally i would rather have altertions done at the shop and i would want them to be perfect and have them done right before so i would probally ship it, insure it, etc.

Re: Transporting My Dress Poll
We shipped all my bridesmaid dresses as of Saturday. They said they would arrive by Wednesday the latest. It cost 30. I can let you know how it goes but I am pretty confident about it.
