Hey girls!! We want to go to Aruba on our honeymoon (to the Riu). Is it cheaper to just do it yourself or use the T.A.? TIA

depends on who can get a better deal. Sometimes sites have cheaper prices and sometimes a TA has good connections at certain resorts and can get a better price. I would look up the prices online and see what you can get it for and also contact a TA to give you a quote and see what they can do.
I contacted a few TA's, then i also looked up the prices on sites, and at first i was getting MUCH better prices myself. I thought i was gonna end up doing it myself, i found $500 each way to spain per person which was a great price compared to others but we also were going from spain to monaco after so that was other flights we needed and them also for getting home, but still my prices were better. I will admit that the $500 each way wasnt the greatest airline and had a stop. BUT then MIL told us to try the guy she uses for work and we gave it a try, he got us on the best airline which was $3k round trip just to spain per person on expedia and all those discount sites, BUT he got us airfare from NY to spain, spain to monaco, and then back home to NY for just a very little over $2k and that was total not per person, he also got on us non-stop flights and even with non-stop flights there was a difference in the time to get there and he got us on the fastest one and best times leaving and coming back, we didnt have to sacrifice that. Dont know how he did it, but he used some of his connections he did great business with. So in the end the that TA was able to get it for me cheaper than any site i tried and i tried them all: expedia, orbitz, cheapoair.com, priceline, cheaptickets, and about 5 more other ones at least.

Thanks! We would love to stay at a hotel thats not AI but im so afraid of the money. I think you're right I'll just call both and see what I can get.

We're staying at the Riu on our HM and booked through Travel Tom (who's affliliated with American Express). FH looked around on A LOT of travel sites and directly through the hotel and ALL the options turned out being wayyy more expensive than booking through the TA. Hope this helps!

We looked into the price of our honeymoon online & then went to a travel agent. It ended up being cheaper going with the travel agent. She got us a couple of deals, and then will look out to see if there are any more promos between now & then.

Travel Tom is Tom Varghese and he can be reached at [email protected]. He doesn't have a website. Many LIW girls use him. He's easy to work with, very patient, he doesn't pressure you in to anything and really works within your budget. Prior to booking our HM through him, I used him for a quick Mexico getaway and he got us a great deal. He's also extremely honest and if he thinks you can book something cheaper on your own, he'll let you know. HTH.
