Travel Agents

Travel Agents

Do I really need one? What can they do that I can't just for myself online? TIA!

Re: Travel Agents

I never use a travel agent--I always book my vacations myself. But, for my honeymoon, I'm going to use a travel agent. I don't want to have to research and stress about it. I'll just go to a travel agent and have them do all the research. It's one less thing I have to worry about. And Plus I think they know all the good spots and nice things to do.

Re: Travel Agents

i used a travel agent for the HM and NEVER usually do because I seriously love to find good deals online. I am going pretty far (Tahiti) and wanted to have the comfort of people who are familiar with the islands and hotels. I priced out my entire itinerary separately and found that because the agency has deals with airlines and hotels, I saved $3K. I also have additional extras thrown in (couples massage, automatic upgrade, private dinner on the beach) that i would've had to pay for. I even priced out a few agencies to see. I think it's worth it to reach out and get an idea of pricing and extras so that you can compare it to what you would get.

I agree with Melissa. I never use a TA but in this case, it does provide peace of mind and possibly can get us a discount.

hmm. I guess I should look into it. My parents are giving us their timeshare points, which will obviously save a lot. But I guess I could see if they can give us discounts on meals or spa treatments and stuff? Do they give deals on airline tickets?

Airfare is a standard published rate....so no discount through travel agents. Where do you plan on going for your honeymoon? If it's not somewhere far far away like Hawaii or Tahiti, I'd say book yourself! You will DEF pay less(no travel agent commission). I can help you find good rates online. I consider myself a travel expert being that I've been to many many islands. Let me know and I'd be more than happy to help you. :)

Tahiti is one of the places we're considering going. Do you mind sharing some information with me? Who are you using as a travel agent?

I always book things myself. But like all the girls said this is a little different. For me its about the option of not having to pay for everything right now. I just have to pay the air fare, then pay installments for the rest.

Travel agents do not get commission on airline tickets - they might even get it cheaper than doing it yourself. Plus if something goes wrong - and I reserved my tkts on line through orbitsz or booking buddies - I would rather deal with the person who knows me and who booked my trip rather than some random person on the phone. If there are any changes to your reservation, they let you know of the time change. These other places don't care about your reservation. I have had major problems using these types of travel sites - I learned from my mistakes. Besides its out HM! You do not want anything to go wrong!!

exactly this too. forgot to mention this. I put down a deposit which was equal to flights and small portion of the hotels and then the balance isn't due until 45 days prior to the trip. definitely nice to not have to pay everything at once right now.
