Travelling to the carribean WITHOUT passports??

Hey -- we're going to Grand Cayman in 2 weeks and dont have passports. The homeland security website says passports are 'suggested' until Jan2007 when they'll be required. We'll bring our birth certificates and IDs, just wondering how big of a PITA it will be.
Has anyone travelled within the past year without passports?
Thanks

Re: Travelling to the carribean WITHOUT passports??

They are going to require passports after the date you listed, even to canada. If you don't NEED it I wouldn't boterh just yet.

Re: Travelling to the carribean WITHOUT passports??

PROBABLY the reason they are suggesting it is so people going for the first time right now, don't forget say next summer and have issues with vacations all paid for but flights they cannot board.

Bring your marriage license too...being you are married, if you changed your name to DH's, your new last name is different than the one on your birth certificate. And they question it sometimes.
I am going on a cruise to Mexico next month and the travel agent strongly suggested bringing it.

you can avoid this all together if you make the reservations in your maiden name. also i think you have to wait to receive your license in the mail, usually a week after the wedding.
