Tribute to those who have passed ...

My future hubby's parents have both passed on. Extremely sad and I get teary just thinking about it. I am wondering for those whose parents have passed on or future parents have passed on what sort of special things are you doing to celebrate them or incorporate them as part of your day?

If only they could be there ... <3

I think I'm having a charm on my bouquet and I may ask the officiant to mention my grandfather.

We had a corsage with a picture of my sister strung into it sitting at her place setting.
Granted, we had the extra seat for it...

But I know a lot of people do memorial candles as well.

We did a couple of things, DH's father had passed and my grandpa.

I had a BK charm with a pic of my grandpa. DH had a charm with a pic of his dad pinned on the inside of his tux.

At the ceremony during one of the readings the Deacon mentioned those who had passed.

At the cocktail hour, on one of the tables, we had 3 different sized floating pillar candle things and a frame with a few pics in it and a poem about how the candles were lit for those who passed, but were there in spirit.

We are not necessarily doing a memorial but we are putting up wedding pictures of all those who have come before us. Including our parents who are all still living and our siblings. So it's not just a tribute to those passed on but those in our lives that have gotten us to where we are today.

Both of our Mom's have passed away. We thought really long and hard about this but in the end we decided not to do anything at all. Neither of us felt we could handle the emotions of it, and we knew some of the people attending would certainly get overwhelmed emotionally. So rather than having a bunch of people crying at our wedding, including us, we wanted to keep everything on an up-note. They will of course be on our minds and in our hearts, but that's all.

My parents & FILs are all still w/us but my brother passed away in '03. FH & I are doing a few things to honor his memory.

~ FH has asked my brother's 7 year old son to be his Jr. Best Man

~I am going to my brother's grave the day b/f my wedding to place his bout there.

~My nephew is going to start the ceremony by walking down the aisle holding a candle stick in a hurricane glass holder and place it @ the side of the alter (I chose not to do the typical memorial candle b/c honestly I dont think I could emotionally handle seeing it)

~ There will be a memorial poem & pic of my brother in my wedding program

~The memorial candle will be brought back to the reception and placed on a memorial table for my brother w/a picture of him.

~I had a satin pocket made to be sewn into my dress, I have some of my brothers ashes in a memorial locket. I am pinning the locket into the pocket in my dress. On the pocket is embroidered
Forever by our side
Always in my heart
My shining star, My beacon of Light
6-7-72 JMS 8-26-03

~ I will also have a bok memorial photo charm of him

~I plan on getting up @ the reception and making a toast to my brother and all our loved ones who are not w/us.

~We are doing a donation in lieu of favors in memory of my brother to the National Brain Tumor Foundation

My mom passed away 12 years ago. We are having a friend reading the following

It is Candice and Robert’s wish that as we get started today you all join with them in a moment to remember Candice’s Mother Michele.

(heather reads this)
I thought of you with love today but that is nothing new?
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too,
I think of you in silence I often speak your name?
All I have are memories and your picture in a frame?
Your memory is my keepsake with which I’ll never part?
God has you in His keeping
I have you in my heart.

I agree with this. My mom is past and FH Dad has passed. I think to have mention during the mass or a rememberance of them at the reception would make me sad on what should be a happy day. I know they will be with us in spirit and that is enough for me. Maybe he could wear something that belonged to his dad- like cuff links.

I'm having a pic. charm on my bouquet of my father.
We are also having out priest mention him at beginning of the mass and doing a memorial candle in church.
On the back of programs there will be a tribute to him as well. and at RH will have a table with his picture on it.

i decided not to preserve my Bo-k and instead placed it at my sister's grave the day after the wedding. My MOH (other sister) did the same with her Bo-k...and we also draped the dias flowers at her grave as well.

These are all such beautiful ways of remembering those who have passed. My future hubby's parents are pivotal to us and although they cant be with us we cant imagine not honoring them or somehow making it known they are in our thought despite not our presence.

I will admit ... this post made me cry

We were also torn as to what we should do.....both our Moms passed within a year off each other and even though they will be in our hearts it would be to hard not to lose it. We decided to incorporate each moms favorite flower into the top of the wedding cake.....instead of a cake topper there will be a bouquet of spring flowers topping the cake and a pink peoney will me there for my mom and a pale lilac will be there for fiance's Mom.

we did memorial roses- you can have someone special walk them down the aisle and then place them on the alter. then we had our minister make mention of it during the ceremony and we also put it in the program.
