Tried Contacts

Tried Contacts

I tried to get contacts today but I just couldn't do it, I couldn't touch my eyes. I am going to try again, I needed to take a break. I want them so bad, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Re: Tried Contacts

When I was in 7th grade, I literally went for contact lessons after school for about a month. Couldn't do it, same thing.

That changed real quick when I was about to enter HS.

I'm still skeeved by eyes, and God only knows I have enough problems with mine, but when you REALLY want them, you find a way to get over it.

It just takes time and practice, you'll get used to it!

Re: Tried Contacts

you will get the hang of it!!! i HATE touching my eyes or getting anything too close to them. I have worn glasses for 10 years now! I decided to get contacts before my wedding last October, so i started in August. I went for 2 1-hour sessions with my eye doctor. they gave me trials to take home, everyone was giving me advice on how to do it. i FINALLY got them in and I haven't looked back.

I never thought I could do it, I was so afraid. Take your time, take breaks if you have to. Move the contact to every place on your finger to figure out the best position for you. You will get, I promise!! I didn't think I would either, but it just took patience and time. I still have trouble sometimes and I've been using them for 9 months, but I wear them just about every day now!!

The easiest for me is placing it in the middle of my pointer finger, pulling up my eyelid with my left hand, and pulling down slightly with my middle finger. Look up just as you are about to put the contact in, bottom first and hold it there for a second, then once you feel it in don't let go of your eye lids yet, slowly more your eye around - looking up, down and side to side until it sets itself.

Don't get discouraged!!

Re: Tried Contacts

Just try your best not to freak out if something odd happens. . .then you're stuck crying in the eye doctor like I was when I was 19. . .

I eventually went back to full time glasses a couple of years ago. Something about chalk dust and dry eyes didn't quite mesh when contacts were in.

Take your time, relax. . .you can do it!!! (said in my best teacher voice)

Thats why I think I am having so much trouble. I was crying in the eye dr. when I was 19 swearing it was in my eye and being told I was crazy. It was in there by the way.

Re: Tried Contacts

I had the same problem when I first got them when I was 13. Even the Optometrist got frustrated with me b/c it took me so long to figure out how to stick the freaking plastic into my eyes, so don't be too hard on yourself. It def does require a lot of practice & patience, you'll get there. It does take time to getting used to it.
