Fh and I have decided no xmas presents this year! instead we want to go away for a mini getaway for new years weekend. we do not want to fly anywhere and don't want to go more than a 5 hour drive from long island. we've been to: Lake George, cooperstown, manchester VT, NH and stroudsburg PA already
does anyone have a suggestoin for a place to go that will not be super duper expensive and will have some fun stuff to do? ex: shopping, snow tubing, breweries, etc. (not skiing we dont ski)

Washington DC has a ton of stuff to do and good night life- The drive is not too bad.

Lake placid is amazing and they have plenty of skiing and tubing and some great lodges

how about the berkshires? Stockbridge is beautiful during the holidays! The Red Lion is a great place to stay right in town.

Maybe Boston, Ithaca (wine touring?) or Montreal (might be further than 5 hours, but LOVE Montreal!)

i second Boston! FH and I did that 2 yrs ago as our holiday gift to each other. went for a long weekend. although it was freezing we had a great time

Boston would be great but FH hates Boston! he went to school there and does not liek the city...go figure..i love it!
